The first 151 Pokémon, introduced in Pokémon Red and Blue, have Kanto Pokédex numbers (official as of those games' remakes), which are the same as the first 151 National Pokédex numbers.

The region with the most Pokémon introduced isn't actually Kanto, it's actually Unova. Kanto only has 151 Pokémon introduced, while Unova only has 156, including Victini that comes first before the starters. Furthermore, the starter Pokémon make up the first nine Pokémon of a regional Pokédex, with three triple evolution stages in total.

Charizard: An orange dragon.
Dragonite: A fat orange dragon.
Squirtle: A blue, bipedal turtle.
Diglett: A half-buried bean with eyes and a nose.
Rattata: A purple rat.
Pidgeott: A bird.
Magikarp: A red fish.
Snorlax: A fat bear-looking thing.
Machop: A grey kid.
Machoke: A buff grey man.
Machamp: A buff, four-armed grey man.
Caterpie: A caterpillar.
Metapod: A green cocoon.
Butterfree: A butterfly. (Looks more like a moth to me)
And that’s only fourteen! I don’t remember many more but if you tell me, I’ll try to tell you how simplistic their design is!
