That James Milner Episode: Training Ground FIGHTS, Klopp’s Mentality & Career Secrets! | EP. 400
Video Overview & Insights
On this week’s episode of That Peter Crouch Podcast, Pete, Chris, and Sids are joined by Premier League legend James Milner — and it’s every bit as honest, chaotic, and insightful as you’d expect. From breaking appearance records to being labelled “boring,” Milner opens up on the mentality that’s kept him at the top for over two decades.
These cameras are fucking cracking me up this is hilarious
He takes us right back to his Leeds debut at just 16, the brutal dressing room culture that shaped him, and the surreal transition from academy kid to first-team regular. The conversation dives deep into his time at Newcastle and Aston Villa, before lifting the lid on the madness at Manchester City — big egos, training ground bust-ups, and the relentless fight to stay in the team amid £30m signings every summer.
Milner also shares incredible insight into Liverpool’s transformation under Jürgen Klopp — from early disappointments to building a title-winning machine — revealing the intensity, leadership, and culture that powered one of the most dominant teams in Premier League history.
Crouchy Waters Greens Chippy in Macclesfield has to be the best!
There’s also plenty of classic pod chaos: dressing room pranks, wild fines, and stories that perfectly sum up why Milner is one of football’s most respected pros. After Milner departs, the lads wrap things up with a Paddy Power segment and this week’s Chaos Card, making some very questionable “phone a friend” calls…
Chumbawamba
It's nuts to be reminded he was playing in Keegan's and Viduka's era. Massive respect for his career. If you can't be a Messi there must be an enormous satisfaction in being the rock that allows everything else to flourish.

Cant you get wireless mics instead of these?
The sound of the cords rubbing against stuff or getting fiddled with all the time is sooo annoying.

Do you put loops in your XLR cables to reduce that horrible mic sound when Crouchy and others are messing with their mics? And is this edited with AI, because the shot is always going back to Peter whenever he does the noise with his microphone, yet we don’t need to see him? No offence, Crouchy. Always thought you were a handsome lad.
As a videographer though, the cuts are really jarring. There’s nothing wrong with holding a shot on the person speaking, and there’s everything wrong with constant noise coming from the handheld mics.
On a more positive note, love the podcast, Crouchy and Milly. YNWA.

Peters relaxed nature makes this pod great, but his ADHD with the microphone is so distracting. Perhaps time to invest in a lav mic or maybe some post prod.
More User Perspectives
It seems so fitting that as humble as he is, it’s so clear that for being the person who has played the most games in the PL, according to his teammates, managers, etc. he has also been one of if not the most enjoyable player to have been able to have as a part of all of those games as well, which just makes the accolade even richer and one I hope he is happy to have accomplished in light of that especially! 🩷🥳
@lovelyjanuaryCrouchy laugh breathing is painful
@JamesLumsden-z5hYou need to get mic holders, Crouchy rustling around and knocking the mic is doing my head in 😂

@jamesburke2094Can we edit out the mic rattling!
@9-Paul-6Wish youd get static mics. The noise back from them as your moving them in your hands is so annoying in headphones.

@UOFeluccabattered chips in West Midlands was an eye opener, other than that Hunt Lane Middleton Rd in the 90s =10/10, Mother Hubbards weren't bad, Levers in Oldham was reliablly dece. Lived in Leeds, can confirm Murg is quality as is Georges in Nottingham
