Chicago Tribune Leaked KFC Recipe:
These two idiots are unwatchable.
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 Ts salt
Now I'm curious about that cooler. Does that operate on 110 or 220.
1/2 Ts dried thyme leaves
1/2 Ts dried basil leaves
Perhaps KFC should copy another recipe? Actually, I prefer Churches chicken
1/3 Ts dried oregano leaves
1 Ts celery salt
My wife has a severe allergy to garlic, but she has been eating KFC for years, (not the Popcorn chicken as its got garlic!) eating normal KFC pieces has no effect on her, so I suspect there is no garlic salt in the original recipe. Plus my brother was a store manager and he gave me a pack of the Original recipe seasoning and it is very black/white pepper forward. I added a table spoon to about 500g of plain flour and it was extremely peppery and I love lots of pepper in my food!
1 Ts ground black pepper
1 Ts dried mustard
Joes recipe is fake and misspelled and has all kinds of issues with his story he’s a liar and not actually a member of my family
4 Ts paprika
2 Ts garlic salt
The reason it was was called 99X is because it was 99% close to the Colonel's original recipe back around the time the Colonel commissioned it. Marion Kay recommends you use 2 tablespoons of 99X to 2 cups flour, but it's more like 3 times that amount (3 tablespoons per cup of flour) to get any real flavor kick.
1 Ts ground ginger
3 Ts ground white pepper
If it’s horrible, why have so many who copycatted (the Chicago tribune) say its indistinguishable
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg, beaten
Can someone kindly translate ken's measurements into teaspoons. My scale isn't accurate enough for small grams
**Ts - what does this mean? Ts is not an abbreviation used in cooking tsp (all lower-case) is used for teaspoons, and Tbsp is used for tablespoons. This led a lot of people to dismiss this recipe - along with the use of celery salt and garlic salt. The Tribune maintains this means Tablespoon, but for us that’s just waaaay to much spice for 2 cups of flour. If it is teaspoons, you get something that’s almost edible.
Ken's Recipe v7:
I saw and old video of Sanders saying he adds salt to the high quality flour then adds that to the 11 herbs and spices.
3g MSG
3g white pepper
Glen i ordered marion kay to try .in Canada b.c and alta the kfc <thats where i get it .i find there is a over welming flavour of accent brand msg . Ive never found kfc to be peppery .i wonder if the flavour changes in differnt regions now ?? ive made my own with sesonings and the accent and baked pork chops and been accused of having kfc just from smell alone. so try accent msg red an white cardboard shaker bottle in one of your tests . i will let you know my opinion on the marion kay when it arrives. I think when cooperate took over they reduced spices and added a bunch of msg .
2.5g black pepper
0.5g sage
the Marion Kay (London UK counterfit ) has a super white pepper taste.
0.5g coriander seed
0.375g ginger
The biggest thing is the chicken. Same breeds used then are not used more. Think you need done heritage birds my friend
0.25g red pepper flakes
0.25g clove
Thanks for this. Very honest assessment and you even addressed the salt claim. Well done. I'm subscribing.
0.25g allspice
0.125g marjoram
I am totally hooked on your KFC vibe!!!
0.125g summer savoury
0.125g thyme
who would have thought we'd all be captivated by a spice blend
All ground and mixed with 200g flour and 25g salt

The x99 needs to double the amount that you put in the flour. And i seen somewhere you need to put citric acid in the cooking oil. I heard kfc did that to help preserve the cooking oil. But a little bit goed a long way

I searched years ago for the recipe on line and the one I found was the closest to modern KFC; it is very similar to the Chicago trib. recipe.
Another time I made a beef stew recipe and was stunned that it tasted like KFC, similar ingredients to the Chicago trib. one

: I made the Chicago Tribune recipe a few times, and you're absolutely correct about it being anywhere in the same ballpark as KFC. It's almost as if nobody at the Tribune even tried it themselves before running with the story. That said, as far as the real-world fried chicken restaurant chains go, I like Lee's Famous Recipe chicken better than KFC.
@M_Riley_2There is a audio tape here on Youtube that Col Sanders is a t a Christmas dinner praising the Marion Kay company and its operation and top class manufacturing of its spices mixtures. just search on YouTube "Marion Kay"
@interstategarI like how she wasn't sure and took another bite x3
@CalzaTheFoxYou guys are cool 😎
@beulahverdellForgot to add MSG to the water
@obama4728Don't you think the Colonel said 11 herbs and spices to throw people off? Why would he let people know his recipe?
@kaybonetteWow my comment is 666 😱
@timothyjones2075Julie looks nice in red!
@Hearthandhome-z1pIt's cute how much your wife seems like she wouldn't be the type of girl to eat a bunch of fried chicken, or wouldn't care, but then she does. And wants more. I think she likes these episodes more than you do.
@johndoe9557when i lived in Canada i used to love Mary Brown's Fried Chicken. i'm not sure if they still have restaurants but i found it delicious and less salty than KFC... plus, they made their coleslaw like how KFC used to make it.. sweet and creamy.. i would love to know Mary Brown's fried chicken batter recipe.. it's amazing

"There IS a Difference".
Do you think the oil the chicken is fried in makes a difference in the flavor? Lard vs vegetable oil? It changed the flavor of McDonalds fries back when they converted to a healthier frying process.
@briardan9226I’ve just watched 2 people eating chicken for entertainment.
@dickydoesI prefer white pepper. Maybe that's where my love for kfc fried chicken comes from.
@SaddleTramp_0fishL2:00 Ken's surname isn't Tuckyfriedchicken is it?
@Your.Uncle.AngMohHi, Glen! I’m newly subscribed, so I thank you for giving me some interesting things to focus on during this difficult quarantine time. Your videos are also reigniting my desire to cook, which I’ve been missing for a few years. I’ve never travelled to Canada, but my husband is there a couple of times a year on business. He’s a very picky eater. KFC is one of three chain restaurants he’ll eat at in Canada, and it’s the first one he’ll choose there, if it’s available. I’m curious if you’ve ever had KFC from a normal KFC restaurant in the states. I know you went to the original KFC, but have you tried one that wasn’t “the original”? I know my husband always says the KFCs in Canada are really good. Since the Colonel had those Canadian restaurants longer than the ones in the states, I’m just wondering if they’ve held onto something lost in the restaurants here. I’m sorry if you’ve mentioned anything about that and I missed it. Love your videos. I’ll keep watching. Stay safe. Thanks for your contribution to my sanity.
@tinaw3252Whatever you do I’m going to recreate as vegan. Watching closely 😍
@Yourkidsbutsmarterdamn... how do you measure 0.125 of a gram ???
@MmmmmmmiwishWatching during the April 2020 shutdown. KFC never sounded so good.
@TheSuzberryThanks for the copycat recipes
@kristinamikkelsoncasanova6287I always heard that the basil burnt in the Tribune's recipe
@caewalker9276Should've also talked about looks. It's gotta look the same. I will be trying Ken's recipe. Thanks.
@ihateads2430Here's my theory.....add some marmite.
@jackflash5659I haven't eaten KFC in a few years due to gluten allergy but hubby & I are both 50+ & we're in the US. I remember us talking several years ago about how much it had changed over the years with less overall flavor but a lot more pepper so comparing it to current KFC probably isn't accurate.
