Correction about vietnam war, the americans were actually on the brink of winning the military side of the war but lost it at home as it became politically untenable.
This is another aspect of Sun Tzu where you need the war to be deemwd as morally right at home as resources are ultimately funneled towards it via the people of the state.

First of all the US armed forces was never dominated or defeated by the Viet Cong. In fact North Vietnam used the Tet Offensive to wipe out the Viet Cong by using them in frontal attacks on the US forces in the South . After the initial shock the US had control of the situation pretty much by the end of the first day. Secondly, guerrilla tactics were neither unconventional or new. Look at the French in Spain. In the 1950's the British fought a half a dozen guerrilla wars across the globe and won them all. Having read Sun Tzu's book the one thing Sun Tzu didn't do which the British did was win over the local population and starved the insurgents of intelligence, local support and bases.

"Sun Tzu has a holistic philosophy which if you follow correctly and study thoroughly you will be victorious" sounds a lot like religion to me. Talk about corrupting the story. What happens if two forces meet, controlled by commanders who followed Sun Tzu's Art of war correctly and studied it thoroughly??? Apparently you have dismissed the nature of warfare and the random inputs of nature, people and luck of the draw.

The most shocking part is the fact that the book/principles Sun Tzu wrote 2500 years ago but due to our mental conditioning with war movies, video war games, wars in real life, and main media's propaganda (main source of revenue), to name a few, we have missed and most of us are ignorant about all other changes that followed up in China. @brettduplessis376America wasn't defeated by Vietnam. That is so categorically false it makes everything you say highly questionable. America simply decided that the costs outnumbered the gains. That they weren't willing nor was it of such importance, for America to fight the type of fight needed to defeat the enemy completely. Because America never lost a battle in Vietnam. I mean the enemy, the VC lost/killer soldiers numbered 800k more than the US. To break it down equivalent to 56 US deaths to 8,500 VC deaths. So the US wasn't losing. They just wasn't winning fast enough. And fighting for what?
It's a blemish on America. For fighting in a war, with 1 hand behind our back. But it was important in the aspect of strength. It's unfortunate, but how does a powerful nation become snd stay powerful?
A strong military. And the strongest military needs to fight, to adapt, to learn, to progress. This is why China no matter how much money they throw into their military. They will not be a peer to America. Because America knows how to fight. America has became effective and efficient at war. China hasn't fought a modern war at all. They would run into so many problems, that they could only remedy against a much smaller threat. America would punish them for every mistake. Give them problems they had no idea existed.
None of the wars throughout history are art, other than some violent bloody kind which would a total desecration of art.
But you can really profit and gain from your past and your history if you choose to be humble to look back and learn from it. The difference between a wise man and a fool is that, a fool never learns.
sun tzu said that, and I'd say he knows a little more about fighting than you do pal because he invented it, abd then he perfected it so no living man could best him in the ring of honor! if you don't get that reference look up meet the soldier

a. In 512BC, the first concept in The Art of War孫子兵法, Dao道, is about aligning the will of the people with the dictator, so that people do anything for the dictator even by risk their own life.
b. And now when the dictator translate it to modern Chinese, "The so-called Dao is to make the people and the government or leader of one mind, willing to live and die together, without fear of hardship."
