STORNOWAY (Mini-Travel Guide): Gateway to Scotland's Outer Hebrides
Video Overview & Insights
As the only town in the north west Highlands and Islands, the bustling little port of Stornoway is a fixture on UK weather maps despite its modest population. It's the commercial and cultural centre for the Western Isles and has plenty to offer visitors, from shopping for Harris Tweed to enjoying a concert at An Lanntair. If you've made it this far then make time for Stornoway!
Will be visiting in July 2026
In this brief guide you'll see:
Lews Castle;
My great grandma grew up around here and had a house there with a pink door. We visited it here two summers ago and we had an amazing time. I miss her so much 😢
Museum of the Western Isles ( with 6 genuine Lewis chessmen - no longer replicas as stated in the film);
An Lanntair Arts Venue;
What are they talking about stornaway something about living in a mansion for free...
The Herring Girl Sculptures;
Cromwell Street;
That's it! I'm going to visit after Christmas!
The Harbour;
and numerous cafes!
Trump's mothers birth town

Hi there, we are possibly doing a story on BBC news today about the petition regarding the Tesco in Stornoway. We are a bit short of pictures of the area, and I wondered if it goes ahead could we use a few of your shots in this film if we provide a credit? Much obliged.

We're planning a trip to Stornaway, later this year. Are there buses, taxis, or trains available in Stornoway for those of us who will have limited time to visit?

@iza.6807👍😁 it looks like the end of the world.
@BlackBoxOpenerThese are not Replicas of the chessmen, they are on loan from the British museum. You should correct this mistake
@thehistoryguy5045Why are the scots so mean and stingy far worse than their reputation
@dannymiewdgWhy are we continually promoting the west of Scotland???!!!
For 18 months louts have been coming north and trashing northern Scotland....and leaving piles of trash everywhere....enough is enough....until you can treat the Gaelic land properly....stay away....visit Spain or the Greek islands...leave us alone to our peace tranquility and wonderful life.
Again....until you can all treat us with respect....stay away, you're not wanted or needed.
You don't spend any money....but cost us thousands.
Wonderful video of one of the most beautiful places in the world. Thank you.
@magsralston6910I could live there 😎
