I swear I could’ve bet my 18-quare meter flat that he’d pick Cody Freestyle as his least favorite "because thin vocals, because underdevelopped track". I know this melon too well.
The track is just a total trip à la Kid Cudi with mass replay value, just don’t overthink it!
A big improvement over Steve's solo debut.

I like your appreciation of Buttons but you should listen to Steve Lacy songs more because they only really grow on you after a while I find.

I can concede that Cody freestyle is a pretty terrible song, but I can't believe you liked the closer as much as you did, considering it features very little musically as well as Steve's falsetto range which you seem to hate. personally I think that Helmet and Sunshine are the best songs on the Album. I'd give it a ten but at least it's not a three.

@j.s.5180Low key I think this is not better than Apollo XXI. Steve phoned it in on this album imo. Some songs are great and really fleshed out, but the majority are just pandering and seem to be creatively dead ends and loops. I don't think that Steve explores musically or lyrically very much as he could have. The whole record feels more like a mixtape with just a bunch of different stuff he's kinda been cooking up is just thrown together.

@jacquesbermonwebsterI don't get this guy at all. He's kind of being hailed as like a lot fi funk version of Prince by everyone including being in NPR's top 20 of year's best. While in all fairness to the guy I've only heard the two singles from GR and I thought they were underwhelming in comparison to anything I heard on his EP. I thought his SNL performance was cringe and embarrassing. I feel like there are so many better indie artists out there that are not getting half the exposure he's getting. I'm more baffled than anything.
