Squirrel Hill in a Nutshell
Video Overview & Insights
Get to know the neighborhood behind the recent headlines.
Beautiful community
Squirrel Hill is not only Pittsburgh's largest city neighborhood but also one of the most complex. In a time of declining city population, Squirrel Hill has grown. It has become the Pittsburgh's own Ellis Island, a mecca for varied ethnic groups moving to Pittsburgh, and home to the most unusual restaurants and stores in town. It's also becoming a model for city living. There's so much to see - in only 30 minutes, but you'll enjoy Squirrel Hill in a nutshell.
Our paternal grandparents house in Squirrel Hill burnt down some time in the late sixties. Never learned how or why. The land was vacant in the late seventies.
More User Perspectives
I lived in Squirrel Hill from 1996 to 2001. Bob O’Connor use to stand at corner of Murray and Forbes in front of Chinese restaurant and greeted and shook hands with many residents. One year. I voted at Jewish Community Center and Mr. Rogers was standing in back of me waiting to vote. Sophie Masloff went to the same salon as me and remember her walking in high heels toward Shadyside. I walked a lot when younger. I noticed that Barnes and Noble left. I hope Jerry’s Record store is still there as well as Eat n Park.

@TrentMylerWe moved to Squirrel Hill from Eastern Canada when I was 8 years old in 1963. I have very fond memories of swimming in the pool at what was then called the Irene Kaufman Center on Forbes Avenue. I went to St. Edmunds Academy right next door!
@jackfairweather199coffee tree roasters closed down because of the horrible way they treated their employees. good riddance.
@CryWolfFilmsI'll visit you now and again. As for cities I'll pass.

@lukesnyder3358It was such a pleasure seeing scenes of the wonderful COFFEE TREE ROASTERS coffeeshop in this video of my favorite city in the USA! It was rather unexpected and, therefore, a very pleasant surprise. Actually, I was the first customer to walk into that lovely coffeeshop and, as I discovered in this video, it was on July 3, 1993. I bought a very good cup of coffee and the very nice lady who was working there that day offered me a free scone which she had broken into little pieces and which she brought over to my table in a napkin. When I first walked into the store both she and the wonderful owner were smiling as they notified me that they had just opened and that I was their first customer. I went to that great coffeeshop many many times over the years and the coffee, as well as the owner's pleasant personality and attitude, were always a great treat. I sincerely hope that that place is still open and operating in 2021 because I would love to go back and enjoy their great coffee and the pleasant atmosphere once again just like I did in the 1990's.

@yvonnie_bunnie5:00 "last year we dedicated..." and shows sign dated 2011.
So must've originally came out in 2012.
Still can't believe the 240p quality though.
240p is for poor people.
@csukosdDisappointingly blurry lo-res video encoding . Try again!
@stephenbaum9150240p video quality in 2019? I'm guessing this was reuploaded from a previous date.
@enjoythevibez5605This is an ah-mazing video! I'm inspired to invite my family to vacation here. I can't wait to visit!
