Sportsbooks Exposed: Using Sharp Books to Beat Soft Books

Video Overview & Insights

One of the cornerstones of being a profitable sports bettor is understanding the difference between sharp sportsbooks and soft (or retail) sportsbooks. You must understand this simple concept in order to gain your winning edge.

By the end of this video you will know why sharp books are much more accurate at setting odds compared to retail books.

Here are the core differences:

For markets with odds further away from 50/50, do sharp books generally apply underdog bias (the unequal application of more juice on the underdog to protect against high liability outcomes)? Should I still use a conservative approach like the power method when using Circa to calculate the EV of a weak line? Or are they so intent on balancing their sides that a multiplicative approach accurately reflects the probability of an outcome?

Great video, great data points. I was curious how Outlier determines the ticket and handle %'s on the games tab. Is this just all the average/median of what the data Outlier can get from those books or does it take into account the 'sharp' books. Also, what are your parameters of EV/Vig/Kelly you like to use?
