Want to know more about a Speedway bike? Greg Hancock takes you through how they function.
Right on. Thanks Greg for your great description about a Speedway bike. We actually did a similar overview in Greg's garage in So. Cal. in 2020 with Greg's son Wilbur Hancock. Check it out and let us know what you think. Here's the link. Please subscribe for the best American Speedway race coverage in the USA. https://youtu.be/Q65jt5d6bwc

speedway sucks...part of the reason it never really took off in the USA and nobody builds speedway bike except a couple of obscure companies no one has ever heard of except speedway racers. Even good old American flat track racing is almost dead now.

The toughest 60 seconds in motorsport! 15 permanent riders battle it out for World Championship points on 500cc bikes with a single fixed gear and no brakes!
I used to watch Billy Gray (actor from "Father Knows Best") race Speedway in Orange County in the mid 70's. Speedway on ice is a trip too..spiked tires

Thanks for this. I’m reasonably new to speedway, are all the bikes (frame & engine) different manufacturers or the same one?
@nathaneyears508you didnt say what kind of fuel they use whitch is important also . thank you for the info though
@flynbrian529Love these technical explanations. Thank you.
@jettaylor1286Two things not explained. No throttle? The engine is wide open all the time and you just clutch it for control? And what's that paddle thing hanging on the right side of the rear wheel?
@michaelhansen7516Highly evolved mechanical objects which demonstrate how much is still possible with analog devices the only concession I see is the solid state ignition
@danielpolk3866I'm 64 and use to race Speedway at Hackney, Wimbledon and most other tracks there were around back then. I attended Ivan Major, Peter Colins, Malcolm Simmons, Barry Thomas training schools. Even now I want to jump on a Speedway bike and race. It gets in your blood and never leaves, Castrol R40 & Dope (Methanol). If only I could have another go.
@GerrardBuckley-rj9wfThis is great! Got some friends into speedway and videos like this helps allot to explain and give depth to the sport!
@TheWallerMan I remember watching him race junior speedway in the early 80’s
@jonmartin6451Top guy, on and off the bike
Was sad when he moved away from riding (his wife wasn’t well, from memory) , still at the very top
Love to see more of Greg on TV? Tatum has done so good insightful “tech talks” (using the terminology of Simon Crafar’s MotoGP pieces) , maybe he and Greg can share the load…Tatum does his excellent race commentary, Greg does more Tech Talks..incl live check ins in tne pits, ask tne riders what they running each race (but would they tell him?!!)
Finally someone explained speedway motorcycles...thanks Greg you are a champion.
@rodneychalker715All hail the legend that is Greg Hancock 👏👏👏👏👏
@grahamodgerGreat explanation and you're doing a super job on the mic. I enjoy your comments and interviews during the SGP broadcasts🥇🏆🏁🏁🏁💪👊
@FastwayissidewaysGreg is a legend.
@japanesetoenglishHow much the bikes have changed.
@mohatchett8001The one and only Greg Hancock. I remember a very young Herbie coming to. Belle Vue in the late 1980,s he was brilliant and I wonder if he remembers the track man at the greyhound stadium who he had a slight disagreement with. Yes that was me.
One of the best. Deserved every thing he achieved in the sport and now he's making films for us. Keep.it up Herbie😂😂😂😂
Excellent stuff
