Someone Knows Something. The $4.15M Tesla Call Tells the Story

Video Overview & Insights

Someone dropped $4.15 million in Tesla calls with 10 days to expiration. The strike was only 3 percent out of the money. The trade hit the ask aggressively meaning whoever bought them was not waiting around. This is not a passive position. This is a bet that Tesla moves up and moves up soon.

Yea ... TSLA down 20 pts. Only crap from tasty team.

— @johnmoser1162

The backdrop is not subtle. A former Tesla board member just put 50-50 odds on a Tesla SpaceX merger that would create a combined market cap north of $5 trillion. Elon Musk exercised $110 billion in Tesla stock options pushing his ownership to 19.9 percent. JP Morgan upgraded Tesla calling it the center of the physical AI stack. And the analyst price range for Tesla runs from $25 to $500. That is the widest range for any mega cap in the entire market. Nobody can agree on what Tesla actually is. The call buyer is not trying to answer that. They just think it is going up.

JPM only re-rated Tesla because they pulled Ryan Brinkman off the Automotive sector. It doesn’t take a genius to see that a bearish stance on Tesla doesn’t sit well with JPM’s SpaceX IPO pump. Also, Tesla C420s with 10 days to expiry? Good luck with that!

Bruh... Why do all these people think they can look at open interest and decide if it is long or short? I've asked Tom Sosnoff and Tony Batista about this several times. There is no way to know. That's just not how open interest works. If I sell a 20,000-lot 210/200 call spread, you're going to see the open interest grow by 20,000 contracts for each strike of the spread. So are you going to say, "Oh, someone opened 20k calls at the 200 and another 20k calls at the 210. They must be really bullish"? No. Well, you could, but you'd be wrong. Open interest is really only "live" contracts, short or long, either = 1 open interest.

I own 2 Teslas (one since 2021, both over 130k miles). Until gasoline is under $1.50/gallon, it's cheaper to drive them - vs a Prius. It's due to cheap electricity at 12 cents/kwh. Electricity prices around the country are highly variable, so the cost makes sense for some and not for others.
