It’s a situation difficult to fathom: Investigators found 16 kids living inside a 1,300-square-foot home in Vinton County, Ohio, confined in a 12-by-12 bedroom investigators say was covered in human waste. Gary Siders Jr., Elizabeth Siders, Gary Siders Sr., and Christina Siders were arrested on Tuesday, June 30th, and remain in jail after waiving their preliminary hearings today, Tuesday, July 7th.
Are those food pantry boxes? Maybe getting free food at a church somewhere? But cat food? Where is that coming from?
Investigative reporter Anne Emerson goes beyond the headlines to understand the human impact in the developing Siders abuse case. How did children live under these conditions for so long? We wanted to hear from the local community affected by this horrific story.
In this episode of Criminally Obsessed, we hear from those voices - from Captain Jeremiah Griffith who was a first responder to the shocking scene, to local Vinton County Pastor James Dimel who describes the community’s support of children who were trapped in a ‘den of evil’. Law enforcement and locals share their shock at the horror lurking in their own community. And Attorney Thomas Stolly, who represents Elizabeth Siders, says the case is more complicated than many believe, urging the public to remember that his client is presumed innocent.

Is this wrong? Oh yes. But I don't think that we will ever know the whole story. I do believe that Elizabeth was abused. She has that 1000 yard stare I have seen on war survivors - maximum trauma. So 😭😭 sad. Let's try not to judge but learn and make sure that this doesn't happen again (although it will) Keep your eyes open and speak 🙊 up PLEASE 😭😭💔💔

Are you telling me the damn landlord doesn’t know he has 20 people in that house ? Is there a lease to sign with 4 adults 5 adults 18 year old and listing the children and their ages. Does he not see what the home looks like from outside ? Whoever the landlord is he obviously only cares about getting his rent money and he is guilty as the grandfather Grandmother father and mother.
Do these kids not have a social security number ? Does the state not mandate go to school , it’s the law or home school if approved ! If these kids have a social security number if they do then they can’t say didn’t know they existed !

@19battlehillWhat a horrific story! I'm wondering how many of these 16 kids are special needs. Being that the oldest was an adult at 18 and could have left of their own accord at some point, and didn't leads me to think that . Just so sad all around .

@luSantos84It's like a family member was running their own mini cult. I'm not so sure that we need to blame the mother. She was pregnant at 15 years old and has pretty much stayed pregnant all these years. IMO, she is most likely another victim in all this.
@hallelujah969Senior, Junior and grandma all look like they have been getting enough to eat. All counties should have a contact number where people can report anything suspicious. For example, the Dollar General store employee felt like something was off. She knew that the mother had been pregnant a few times, and extreme poor hygiene would raise some yellow and red flags. If the mother and father had extreme poor hygiene, it would make me believe that the children were in the same condition. If they had been going to school, the teachers would have most likely raised the flag to the proper authorities.
