Should the EU Become a Federation Like the US?

Yes and no. Federation in Europe means countries have their languages dialects and cultures to protect, while the US does not need that on any federal or state level.
Education should be free on any level in Europe while in the US it's a mess from home to public and private schooling where kids are still allowed to be physically assaulted by those in charge, to vastly overpriced and marketed Universities so they may claim a ranking at anyone prepared to publish their findings for a fee. 😢

I know it seems controversial, but I believe that if Europe will federalize sooner or later, we should know what it will look like (*realistically*).. Personally, I believe the EU is losing its democratic touch, since the last elections, and it is going towards one of these directions.. either in practice, in ideology or even in the full name and meaning itself.

Well, let's go down the numbers, starting with the US:
50 relatively similar states (sure there are some regional differences, but they're nothing compared to differences between different countries), with a long history of camaraderie (they even had to fight side-by-side to attain independence).
Only 1 war between the states
1 common language (although some people want to change that by importing large numbers of people who don't speak said language)
Largely 1 political system where exact region doesn't matter TOO much at the federal level

And now for the EU:
27 vastly different nations, with a long history of fighting each other
Countless wars between the states
24 different languages
28 different political systems (at least), where different states are always in a tug-of-war over central power

Amaury de Riencourt even once said that the Europeans and Americans are a lot like the Greeks and Romans, respectively.

(Should also note that when I say "political system", I don't simply mean constitution; I mean all the other political mechanisms that operate both inside and outside government)

A Federal Europe, with Canada as best friend, would create a powerhouse and give Europe a realistic chance to survive the clashes of the "Titans".

If the federation is too strict it implodes if it’s too loose it’s sluggish. There must be a compromise.
We must do away with th veto and keep the principle of helping each other to raise a common living standard.

If not a Federal Europe then at least a common army since we are facing difficult times on our continent.

Yes, this is the future of the EU, but with some defining differences. I would not call it the United States of Europe, since that would simply be incorrect. It will be the European Union, with important internal differences from what we are now. We will need our European army. We will have an internal tax and possibly more systems will be likely more equal to various economies in the EU, but not all, so we will get a staged and level membership. I foresee a candidate level with reforming focus. I will see an entry level, with financial reforming and tax reforming, as well as internal economic advances. I see a basic level member state in which also the Euro will become introduced, as well as membership to work towards the last level. And I see a founder level in which we will see full membership and defined specific economic and international roles for various member states, also the role of being part of the European army. There is way more details I would like to add, but that will become a book right here. So let me leave it at this. It will look more like a mix between what we have and a federation of European nations, which would be implied in to my model. My model comes closer to the Swiss model. With some roles partly back to national government, and some move towards EU.

The EU needs a few more crises, or an aggravation of the current ones, for it to move to more federal powers.
I'm guessing joint defense production of fewer weapons but spread across the Union would be a good catalyst.
This could be followed by regional joint commands, along with a central command staff drawing widely within the bloc.

In some ways what has delayed further integration has been the weakness of Russia (it's not a credible opponent in a conventional war) along with US assurances of participation in defending NATO, and, by extension, the EU, especially if a war threatens to become non-conventional. Both of these variables are changing in the direction that the EU (along with non-EU local states) must go to further integration.

But, in short, the EU isn't going backwards, not when it already controls the Baltic and the Med as well as the North Atlantic. It has the second most important currency in the world, which favors all the minnows in the EU, who would not otherwise be able to protect their own turf.

i’m tired of being bullied, federalize a core EU, now. Putin, Xi and Trump disrespect anything that isn’t a nuclear superpower. They threaten our prosperity, culture and freedom. We can’t allow that, we must act, now.

From a German perspective, one of the problems with the EU is that too much power ends up in the hands of bureaucrats in Brussels, making decisions feel distant from ordinary citizens. Some countries pay much more into the EU budget and receive less back, while others contribute less but get more support in return.
A better balance would be more decentralization for areas like energy, borders and other internal policies, where local realities matter. Germany is the EU’s largest economy by GDP, yet our wages don’t increase accordingly. We lack control over our borders and energy policy, while the EU imposes rules on us. More power should go to individual states, but stronger central coordination should exist only where it’s truly necessary, especially in defense and security, where unity is essential

We need more cooperation, especially militarily, but a true federation wouldn't work...
What I WOULD like is for the EU to allow its citizens to vote on EU representitives directly in stead of leaving this up to national parties and to allow direct democratic voting on shared issues. We have the technology, make it happen!

I hope for English in every school, properly regulated monopolies, immigration done right, human rights, fair taxation, a strong and fair army, good healthcare, low pollution, human and animal rights, and properly regulated technology and progress.

One can only hope...only education and smart people could make this come true, but we have done many incredible things as humans, so I can only hope it's possible.
