Sew a Ruffle Boxy makeup pouch with me! Detailed Beginner friendly Sewing tutorial

Video Overview & Insights

In this video, I’ll walk you through how to sew the medium-sized Ruffle Boxy Pouch step by step. This pouch is a fun twist on the classic boxy makeup bag, adding soft ruffles along the zipper for an extra feminine touch. It’s beginner-friendly, quick to make, and perfect for gifting (or keeping for yourself!).

I’ve been making boxy make up bags but struggling to get the final closing seam to look neat. I tried one where it closed along the zipper with a final top stitch but my lining fabric never looked nice on the inside because I can’t see what’s happening in there, it was either missed or too far onto the lining. Next I tried one that left a gap in the bottom of the lining that needs closing to finish but that also looks like a horrible scar right as you look inside the bag 😐 I’m so excited to try this method! I only came here looking for ruffles but feel like you’ve solved all my problems, thank you so much 🥰🥳

Is there a written pattern for sizes?

I could be wrong, but I think you mistakenly state that he zipper has to be at least "9" inches from the closed part of the zipper. Shouldn't that be 12 inches for the medium bag? I'm only asking because I'm about to make the medium bag and I think I might need a longer zipper. Love the pattern, btw. I already made the small and I really enjoyed making it!

Absolutely lovely! The gingham ruffle is so cute. Can I use a 90/14 needle on this, or do I need a different size?
