Secrets to Winning in the Wet (Explained)

Video Overview & Insights

Racing in the wet is one of the biggest challenges a driver will face, and one that as fans, we all love to watch. It’s the great leveller of machinery and the moment when great F1 drivers can outshine their cars, showing off their incredible feel and car control.

Thanks for watching!

Think Schumacher in Spain in '96, Hamilton at Silverstone in '08, Senna at Monaco in '84, Senna at Donington in '93 or, Senna any time it happened to rain. Or, as it happens, any other time.

Today, I’m going to explain why racing in the wet is such a challenge and the techniques great F1 drivers use - to extract the most from their machinery in rainy conditions.

I had my first race weekend ever and it was in the rain... well practice was in the wet and quali was on a half wet, half dry track and i found it tricky to understand the grip and the conditions. I watched this before hand because i knew the weather and i know the fundamentals but in practice it is so much harder than i ever couldve thought. i have no karting experience really, and certainly not in the wet being from Las Vegas. It is supposedly going to rain in New Orleans in my second race weekend and i want to be prepared, this certainly helps a bit more with understanding the line i can and should experiment with when its wet on track.

Of course the greatest wet weather driver is either senna or Schumacher. Not much between them and miles ahead of the rest, although max might actually get to their level with his natural talent.

But if everyone thinks exactly the same the wet line will accumulate rubber as well defeiting the purpose of following this line no?
Or this doesn't happen do to less amount of rubber transfered to the pavement because of less sticky tires due to less generation of heat.
