Seahorses and seadragons, some of Nature's most curious creatures
Video Overview & Insights
Seahorses are unique ocean inhabitants with a head like a horse, a pouch like a kangaroo, a tail like a monkey, and the ability to camouflage themselves like a chameleon. They also exhibit an unconventional gender dynamic, in that the males do the work of carrying around fertilized eggs. Correspondent Conor Knighton goes in search of these fascinating fish – and their equally fascinating cousins, seadragons – at the Birch Aquarium at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in California.
My favorite animals. I love them and I hate that they're killed for medicine for human beings.

I was entranced and mesmerized when I saw my first weedy sea dragon at an aquarium in Busan, South Korea. What stunning creatures!

Growing up, I saw them only in cartoons. I didn't know they actually existed until I was grown up.

I still remember the day I noticed Neptune taming a sea horse
@StephenoidI was swimming in the Florida keys and a tiny little seahorse just swam by me close to the surface. I wasn’t snorkeling or diving and saw him. It was magical and I knew then how very rare it was. Thank you God for this gift.

As a kid i had a plastic orange seahorse with beads inside. You could shake it to make noise.
Part of the front area and belly were painted white. I loved this toy very much.
Let's pacify the masses with sea horses
@Ben-tw7lfGOD DOES SUCH BEAUTIFUL,CREATIVE AND DIVERSE WORK IN ALL OF CREATION 🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@CarolBuford-g9kIt's kinda odd... How different the Seahorse is from other fish but, in seemingly contradictory status we completely love these little wonderful denizens of the seven seas.!!!
@MyrddinREmrysMother Nature is weird.
@Seekthetruth3000Cool film 🐉 🌿
@larryg.9187I love this
@Stitchcollector1Wow so beautiful and such different varieties. All are so beautiful.
@6125TiffanyNice - my alma mater, UCSD! When I was there, the nightmare of that bronze gray whale statue outside; "Paint it! It should be gray!" Okay, paint it. "Wait, it's bronze, so it should patina over time!" Okay, sandblast and remove the paint. "Wait, it's so dull now." WTF did you expect? (Yes, this is the memory of the Birch Aquarium, lol.) Scripps is amazing as an oceanography institute. I found myself going to that smaller library often, and rediscovered my passion for marine life. It led to a (short but meaningful) career working with marine mammals.
@hummersdSea Horses.
We don't need to look for aliens out there...
We have "aliens" right here on earth...
