Robert's Rebellion: The History and Lore Behind it | House Of The Dragon Analysis

Video Overview & Insights

Robert's Rebellion is the most defining part of the a song of ice and fire backstory, bring and end to the Targaryen era of westeros with the death of the mad king Aerys and Prince Rhaegar, and the rise of Robert Baratheon, and with him the likes of Cersei Lannister and Tywin. main characters from the books play a huge roll such as Eddard Stark. It also ends with the famous Tower Of Joy that spawned so many fan theories.

You may or may not have noticed YouTube has changed its mid roll ad policy. It means i have to go back though all 678 videos and adjust them to firstly ensue our new ai overlord isn’t going crazy with auto add placement. Plus i need to adjust all the manual adds on every video. 678 videos. It’s not gonna be fun. But this is why again this week ive had to use and emergency compilations video so I have the time to make all the needed changes. Thanks for your understanding

Robert's Rebellion: A Complete History | House Of The Dragon / Game Of Thrones History and Lore

00:00:00 Defiance Of Jon Arryn

Uh, we know stuff the show is cannon for the most part. As GRRM told them where the story was going cause he was never gonna finish it. So we know Lyanna birthed Jon Snow there.

— @totallynottrademarked5279

00:08:00 The Escape Of Eddard Stark

00:15:05 The Battles At Summerhall

21:31 Says the man she's betrothed to is unsuitable because he took another woman to bed before marriage. Same woman tears the realm apart, bedding a married man. Make it make sense, Lianna, you hoo-er.

— @AndysBaby

00:23:18 Battle Of The Bells

00:31:38 Wedding Of Eddard Stark & Catelyn

I honestly don't care about Aegon's conquest. I've never cared for him or his sister wives. I've been wanting to see the Robert's Rebellion live action for years now though i know its the least likely to happen because GRRM won't finish his books.

— @mileania7287

00:39:12 The Wildfire Plot

00:46:45 The Battle Of The Trident

Thank you so much for not using show pictures and clips for the characters!! This is one of my biggest pet peeves with ASOIAF YouTubers, HBO's Game of Thrones is NOT ASOIAF. Subscribed.

— @TroubledTrooper

00:53:50 Sack Of King's Landing

01:13:00 The Murder Of Elia Martell

I hope hbo will make a TV series for roberts rebellion

— @bigfoot6694

01:21:00 Siege Of Storm's End

01:30:46 The Tower Of Joy

Aerys may have seen Viserys as his heir but legally speaking Aegon was Aerys' heir after the battle of the trident

The Script Of This Video uses information from The World Of Ice & Fire (2014), Fire & Blood (2018) and The A Song Of Ice And Fire Main Series. The ASOIAF Wiki has been used to confirm order of events and clarify discrepancies between sources. George R.R. Martin's blog posts have also been used as a source and like the wiki i to do consider this information canon. Any similarity of this video to the structure of these sources is a consequence of the subject matter of the video and limited sources dictating the way in which events played out with no room for interpretation. In some areas it can be very difficult to make the script 100% different as stated in the sources without just making it up which isn't the point of these videos. There are places it's more similar to the sources than i like but with no way to really spin it a different way, given in many case, it's physically the only way to approach the subject. Information strictly from the TV show has not been used in these video unless stated otherwise.

The Dance Of The Dragons will be the focus of the plot of the new HBO spin-off House Of The Dragon coming in 2022. So if you want to learn the story before we see HBO's take on it then this will be a very long-running series. Game Of Thrones / House of the dragon are HBO shows based on George R R Martin's A Song Of Ice And Fire series. The information in this video comes from the books a world of ice and fire as well as fire and blood.

At the end of the day, I don't care. I got about 13 minutes into this videos in 2026 when I realized something. "it's not like it matters. None of this will be brought up at the end of the series. Because the series will have NO ENDING." At that moment, a wave of bliss washed over me, and I was suddenly set free of The Song Of Fire And Ice, nor do I regret it. Trash it is. Rubbish of the lowest caliber, not fit to dress a fools cloak. The entire series is a petulant lordlings attempt to out do The Lord Of The Rings, and perhaps for a year or three he did. But no one will remember him. In another 10 years your channel will be obsolete. Game of Thrones will be obsolete. The world will have moved on, seeing GOT as just another (unfinished and unrefined stepping stone) between Lord Of The Rings, and a better don't Song Of "Ice and fire"

P.S.
Maybe the fact that he could not even settle on a proper title would have told you hopefuls something, but doubtless you would have simply forgotten the original name in favor of the better sounding "a song of ice and fire"

One thing always bothered me about this. Why didn't Jamie just show the stashes of wildfire everywhere? There would've been no question that Jamie had had no choice but to do what he did. Then he could've rubbed Ned Stark's self-rightous nose in it. How is what Jamie did any different - at all - from what Ned did? Ned had sworn an oath to the King as well as a Warden of the North and he broke that when he joined Robert's Rebellion.

Jon Arryn didn't know if the kingdom would back his defiance or if they'd side with Aerys and fall upon him, he only knew those were his boys, and he'd fight the whole kingdom for them, what a Man.

ART LINKS

Forget the dance of dragons. I want a series made about Robert’s rebellion

— @Jared_Hansen

-----------------------------------------------

The following link is for all the art that I use, if you see an image in this video a link to the source of it will be there, and the name of the artist if it's possible to find. If you see art in any video that has been attributed incorrectly please send me a email so i can fix it, i feel it is vitally important to credit artists, especially with the rise of Ai Art. Unfortunately mistakes do happen as work gets reposted without credit all the time making narrowing down the original source a challenge.

A most fantastic telling of one the greatest time periods in Westeros history. Ours is the Fury!

If the fisherman’s daughter was Jon’s mother in rumor then that would establish Ned never cheating on Catelyn as he never met or was engaged to her at the time.

The fact that this 2 hour video covers a small segment of GOT lore is insane. GRRM (despite his flaws) is a master writer

If Lyanna was not kidnapped, she was extremely stupid for disappearing without telling anyone.

What's with the confusion over why Rhaegar left those three knights of the Kings guard to defend Lyanna, they weren't technically defending her but Rhaegars soon to be born son. For her to be giving birth just before Ned arrived, having come straight there after the battle on the trident and a brief stop in kings landing then Rhaegar surely knew before he left that she was pregnant and it then makes his decision to leave knights of the Kingsguard there to protect his son if things went poorly, make perfect sense. The real mystery to me is the Tower of Joy was in Dornish lands, which Dornish lord would have let Rhaegar use their tower to cheat on Ilyia, a Dornish Princess?
One mystery I probably can solve , why Ned went to Starfall, it likely had very little to do with returning the sword and had more to do with the fact that it was closest place he, by returning the sword could aquire a wet nurse for Jon. How else for two men to keep a baby alive with its mother dead all the way from Dorne to the North. Which also ties in to little Ned explaining to Arya that he and Jon are 'milk brothers'.

Shame Robert let himself go after many years, became fat and a drunk. Seems like he was quite the worrier in his younger days.

There’s a lot of stories, films, shows that take place years after a legendary and historic time. I ask myself, “why not just make THAT time the story?” I get it’s part of the context and the overall story. Blah blah blah. Just show me the fing awesomeness. Not after the awesomeness lol

Given Rhaegar got killed, would the heir to the Throne after Aerys not be Aegon? Or is it that the King’s son is next in line even if a son of the previous heir is still alive?
