With Seabridge, the recent US100m financing deal from their “strategic partner,” would suggest that some large, cashed up player views KSM as very low risk. They could also opt for repayment in Seabridge’s shares, which is a significant vote of confidence in a development stage company - normally viewed as high risk by investment firms. The strategic partner must have a reasonable to believe that the development of KSM is very likely if not certain.
To me, it is just a sign of greater interconnectedness between - likely Newmont - and Seabridge’s. Another reason to believe it is Newmont; Newmont would gain around USD500m in synergies that another buyer would not. Nearby mill to run small amounts of KSM ore before the mega-mill is finished, hauling roads, the block cave expertise to target the higher grade core of KSM, and power infrastructure in place etc. In the end, no prizes for working it out; as long as someone large and capable snaps it up.
