As a young boy and went to bed looking at and running back and forth on your mattress a die cast Bburago, or a Maisto, that you could open everything and see the motor, interior, and trunk. My dad would get myself and my 3 older brothers cars like that all the time. Plus our Matchbox and Hotweels. Older ones would get put in the bench vise and use wood shims to make them look like a car that had been either in a fender bender or a head on collision. There were four of us boys. When we all would flop down in the livingroom floor, we would have a pick session and go around and one at a time we would pick as it came around to our turn to pick. We had a big box full of our Hotweel size cars and pour them out and spead them out like domino's. My one brother would grab the tow trucks and police cars, my other brother would snatch up the older beat up and purposely smashed cars and have a wrecking yard. Then the oldest brother would snatch all the nice and newest cars.. Anything that wasnt the right scale would be ditched to the side. Not allowed under the 1980 "play right" laws.. its funny how it carried over into our adult lives. My brother that took the tow trucks and cop cars ended up being a Los Angeles County sheriff Deputy. My brother that took all the new cars is a paint and auto body guy, and my brother that took the wrecked and old beat up ones, him and I have spent countless days driving through small towns looking for the old aboned cars, or just junk yards and ask to walk the property to see what we find hiding in the trees and brush..
Sorry long comment but it takes me back.. I have a 62 impala ss, a 54 Ford truck. 62' series 62, 6 window Cadillac, and now have a 65 stepside C10 and a 54 chevy 210.. I had big plans but cancer put a halt to all that.. Hard to see them sit and not be enjoyed... My point was if you were a young boy In the last of the 70s and into the mid 80s, Hell yeah you slept with your favorite cars. You would be playing with them on your bed until you fell asleep. Nothing better and normal.
