They really should have ended it with Maverick's sacrifice and Rooster going home. Yes they did follow it up with some very very cool pilot stuff, but Maverick sacrificing himself for real would be kind of 'balancing the scales' for Goose.

And I like the no helmet if for no other reason than it drives Safety Sally mad because media depictions of people riding motorcycles, especially the star, need to have the star set a good example. /eyeroll
Not anti-helmet - the only time I ever rode w/o a helmet was the day I picked up the bike. I don't have a bike any more and haven't for many years, but I still have my helmet just in case...

regarding high speed ejection...both the B58 and th XB70 had encapsulation ejection seats

I did this "breaking communication stunt back in 2004 in Iraq, when our incompetent commander, sitting in his comfy chair, in his air conditioned office, ordered my small EOD patrol, to go right into middle of the lairs of Al Sadr's "Martyrs' Brigades". He had no idea what he was doing due to his habit, to be drunk 24/7. Apparently he missed his family, but he didn't give a s**t, that families of my soldiers could never see them again... Therefore I've ignored his direct order and started stuttering into radio's microphone pretending that he's breaking up, and I couldn't understand his message. It was the only time in my 15 years military service, when I have disobeyed a direct order from my commanding officer. He never found out about it, as my guys never shared this info with anyone. Even with their own families. And I have never asked them for silence on that. I didn't have to... They all knew what our commander ordered me to do...

to be fair for those thinking an F-14 couldnt do that to a 5th gen fighter....I disagree....the pilots of the SU-57 gave up 100% of the advantages that the 5th gen had and got not just WVR of a fully armed F-14.....but also allowed into "Knife" range. Remembering that Maverick was a borderline ACE fighter pilot....he would have the skills necessary to pull this off in this EXACT position.

21:02 objection! This is exactly what aviators are supposed to do when their wingman gets shot down. Second in command (section lead for the Navy aviators) typically stay for this exact reason to help protect the downed aviator

Here's a thing to note gentlemen. While there are many International Laws our nation abides by, and there are many of our own laws that might apply should an International Law be violated. There are no international statues that the US adheres to that would permit a US Citizen to be extradited for trial under International Law. As most of those accords to incite such a need the US is not a signatory on and thus doesn't have to abide by.

Also more generally, International Law is more of a "proposition" and the expectation of commitment and adherence to the degree that International Law only exists where there is real authority behind it. For example, no judge federal or otherwise has any real authority behind any orders they create or force upon the population as they are not the enforcement arm. That falls to the Law Enforcement, which is first and foremost the US Military, then Federal Agencies, State Agencies, and finally Municipal agencies. Without this enforcement judges are powerless, just as International Law is effectively powerless without the will to enforce. So, any notion of violations of International Law when regarding Military operations of the United States of America is a moot point as again the People of the United States of America as represented by Congress does not adhere itself to most if any of the enforcement arms of International Law.
