The 10th? Its ok. The canal and surrounding are nice but near the station can get very sketchy. The 11 is the best in my opinion.

16 th is my fav. Just vibey, good terrace, pretty quite which people judge to be overpriced but it's not as bad as the things on the 8th lmaoo

I grew up in the 11th in the 90s and even though it was pretty nice back then it has apparently really changed since then. It wasn't that trendy back then at all.

1st time in Paris we stayed in the Haussmann area...just what I imagined France to be - the hotel room was miniscule. I loved it. As a couple my man and I love to walk. Bur for living, I am sure you are correct.

Nice video, I agree on the ranking but the color choice is quite confusing: Red should be the worst and Green the best

11th arrondissement (and former 20th) here. You're being too harsh on the 20th. Too far away? Taking metro line 11 down the hill to Rambuteau and back up again is a snap. And as for "not knowing what's going on there" in the 11th, it's one of the last non-touristy pockets in the city. Peace.

I find these videos much more useful than most of the articles online about safety and places to avoid. "Oh no, these parts have pickpockets and tourist scams!". First time, buddy? That's just Paris. I'm more concerned about where is stabby af, not about pickpockets.

It's your list so there's not much to say in terms of what you like or don't like. I live in the 20th and would not want to live any place else. It's ethnically mixed (one of the last places to be able to claim this in Paris), full of up-and-coming restaurants and bars (rue de Belleville and Menilmontant), and it's not overrun with tourists (yet). Oh, and I'm five minutes from the Buttes Chaumont which, though not in my arrodissement, are right across the border. Plus, because it's in the heights, it's cooler and the air is cleaner and you get some awesome views of the city.
What I do have a problem with is your way of emphasizing distance. Paris is tiny. I walk across the city on a regular basis and you can pretty much cross the entire thing in two and a half hours. It has one of the best--if not the best--transportation systems in the world. Plus, with cars being pushed out, getting across Paris on a bike (electric or not) takes about 30 minutes. So, again, while the crappy vibes (the 7th and 16th being highest on this list) or massive overcrowding (the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th) are absolutely major criteria for me as they are for you, distance has never been an issue (even when Paris was one big stinky traffic jam). So, if you are talking about where you want to live, where there's a bar, coffee shop, and restaurant you want to hang out in within a five minute walk of your front door, oh, and where there Asians, people from the Maghreb, the rest of the African continent, Indians, etc. then the 19th and 20th (and perhaps the 17th) would be my absolute favorite arrondissements. Note that I first moved to Paris in 1963 as a baby, left in 1976, and then have moved back and forth between Paris and the States over the intervening years. I've lived in the 18th, 6th, 13th, 14th, and 20th. Each of these places has changed massively over the years and yes, over-tourism has destroyed the city, not only because of the masses of people, but also because of the number of apartments that have been turned into airbnbs pushing residents out into the suburbs. But the 20th still has some of what Paris was all those years ago and there remain many fun places to hang. Anyway, my 2 cents.

You do say “like” a lot…would sound much more polished and educated if you didn’t. I also believe the 3rd is quite over rated. But, it’s fun to visit occasionally.

All of them should be in F, that city is a shit hole, visit other french cities and avoid Paris

Great video, but we just drove down through A.10 from CDG to Le Marais along Rue Marx Dormoy a few days ago and the place was an absolute dump. Run down, graffiti everywhere, etc. Perhaps we just missed the good parts but I couldn’t wait to get out of there. 🤷‍♂️

My brother lives in the 6 th near the Sorbonne and mom lives in the 6 th off rue Cler. It’s quiet. Lots of neighborhood coffee shops, restaurants, groceries and the tourist shops are limited.

Great review. Having lived in various arrondissements of Paris over the past 20 years I would agree with a lot in this. With the important caveat that your experience of Paris very much depends on what stage of life you're at : if you're a professional in your twenties or early thirties and without children, South Pigalle (9th) and Batignolles (17th) are amongst the best places to live. They're the 'Bo Bo' (Bourgeois Bohemian) areas. I lived in South Pigalle area when I had two small children : not great for parks (the tiny one at place St George is about as good as it gets). I now live in the 16th, near Village d'Auteuil. This is the last place I thought I'd end up, but for families it's great : the schools are good, the large parc St Périne is just around the corner, the quais de Seine is just down the road, the public transport network (buses and metro) is fantastic, and it's much more affordable to buy than the 15th. Wherever you live in Paris, what is key is being near a market street, because that is the life and soul of any area (rue Cler in the 7th, rue des martyrs in the 9th, rue de Levis in the 17th, ...).

Paris is not a small city with a small city vibe, you have another 8 or so million people in the urban area outside the periphique.

I can't help wonder if M. Swanson has ever met or compared notes with Paris vlogger LucileHR, who has also recently released her survey of les arrondissements. Meanwhile @ParisTopTips has made an excellent point about the challenge of classifying the arrondissements due to the diversity of les quartiers within each arrondissement. I’ve been there as a tourist only (3x) and I don’t think 10th will be near my top pick. Too overwhelming if I have to live there. I had to move from where I stayed in the 10th to 3rd first time I was there. I will have to explore 18,19, 16 next time. I found Paris pretty small and would not consider any of the arr far . I live in KC which is like 9x the size of Paris 😅.

I expected not to hear a lot about coffee shops or where to eat...I find more interesting to know details about transportation by subway, bus, uber and taxis. This was great! I know it’s more about living in Paris but do you have a similar video for where you would stay in Paris as a tourist? Or where you would tell friends to stay? Struggling to find the balance of not too far from the sights but not in the heart of touristic ares. Been going back and forth between the 2nd, 9th and 11th but I could use some help!

Why DO you live in the 16th?!

I want to know which is the Arrondissement with the lowest cost accommodation for a single person living in the city. Or is there a place, close to but, outside of the city that'd be significantly cheaper. I ride around on a bicycle, so distance isn't such an issue for me.

The 20eme is very close once you live on line 11. It's the most convenient arrondissement: affordable and 10min away from République.

I think that you will choose the 6th and 13th as best to live. one expensive the other not so much.

Parisian here. The 6th is just dead, very sanitized. This is where the people from the 7th go shopping, so go figure.
The 10th is the best : gentrification hasn't totally killed (yet) this arrondissement.
The 11th is the second best : ultra trendy in the 1980's, and then it withered. Excellent.
The 2nd is third.
