Presidential Historian Answers Presidency Questions | Tech Support | WIRED

Video Overview & Insights

Presidential historian and head of the George Washington Presidential Library Lindsay Chervinsky joins WIRED to answer the internet's burning questions about the American Presidency. How did the United States end up with only two dominant political parties? Can Donald Trump run for President again? What are the actual duties of a Vice President? Why is election season so long in America? And how many presidents have ever been arrested? Answers to these questions and plenty more await on President Support.

this was so interesting! you really know your stuff!

0:15 Can Trump run again?

Carter spoke spanish also. UN would send him to central America to monitor elections because he could speak Spanish.

2:50 State of the Union

If a person can't handle a 2 .5 year campaign then they cannot handle a four year term.

Biden pardoned his own son because the Republican Party used him as a target because they couldn’t drum up anything to go after Biden for

— @MissShell909

5:29 Has the peaceful transition of power ever been in more doubt?

6:25 Well, that’s classified.

He’s gonna go to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court is going to say that the 22nd amendment is unconstitutional lol

— @MissShell909

6:37 Day in the life

7:31 Meaningless S

As a disabled person interested in history, it's always inspiring to me when I hear of leaders that were disabled, especially world leaders. We never think of positions of power being suitable for disabled people, regardless of evidence to the contrary. Unfortunately, I can confirm that if you're physically disabled then there is still an assumption that you also have a mental impairment. So many disabled people are underestimated, talked over, and talked for even when they are as compos mentis as a non disabled person. We live in hope that one day this will change.

— @sarraliz8934

8:23 Why are American elections so long?

The fact that retards actually think trump would try again is asinine. I told my dad the same thing because he gets all bent over hyperbole

10:07 George Washington's take on political parties

When there's a 30 minute video on whether Trump can be president or not, you know there's gonna be political biased opinions involved. Sorry to burst this lady's bubble but Trump can be president if he wants. One of the many ways, is running for Vice president and taking over the role or a change in the constitution. In regards to January 6,Trump was impeached and aquited but the media will never acknowledge that because the evidence used for the impeachment was falsified media statements. We are still waiting for the $2 billion damage the BLM movement caused with their violent protests, looting, and vandalism across the country in 2020.

— @FasterthanSpeed414

23:47 How has the presidency changed?

24:25 Presidents can be short kings

You are wrong. George Herbert Bush was the architect of the first Gulf War. He was poking si los in the tastings that he had to come up with a war. He took advantage that the Soviet Union was collapsing in order to start his war against Sadam Hussein.

— @carlosmartinez-couoh7393

24:50 How many presidents have killed somebody?

25:17 Presidents who have been arrested

Would have been nice if Grant had put as much effort into suporting Indigenous peoples as he did African Americans. BOTH groups needed support but Grant only tried to assimmilate Indigenous people rather than support them.

27:34 What does Commander In Chief mean?

I think this was a super balanced, and non-partisan take on US politics and Presidents. I like how she was able to avoid polarisation despite the questions and explain the most polarising events in a fact based manner without an agenda other than being informative and factual. Bravo 👏👏👏 Have her on again, please!

28:03 Polk's war with Mexico

28:48 Best president on foreign policy

9:22 Not terribly comforting to know that this hasn't changed literally at all over the years, nor has the idea that those with intellectual disability are inherently lesser which leads to this kind of thing in the first place. Oof.

Edit: 10:25 OOF!!

ABOUT WIRED

I want to point out a very important distinction about Jan 6th.

No matter who you are, or where you stand on what happened, you should not say that they "Tried to overthrow the results of the election". That is not at all what happened. The people protesting were trying to get the results to be investigated. That is not the same as overthrown. You can say that they were misinformed if you would like, but it is very clear that based on the facts they believed, they were helping to enforce the constitution. I ask you this, if it were to be proven beyond a doubt that the 2020 election was in fact fraudulent, would that change your view about what happened on Jan 6th? I bet it would. To me that is the real question. IF There is a reasonable doubt as to the integrity of the election, then the protest was a great thing (obviously a riot is always bad though). IF There is no reasonable reason to doubt the integrity of the election, then the people there were idiots, but had good intentions.

If Jan 6 was an attempt to "overthrow" the election- then it was comically weak.

Further proof we do not want a female presidency. Woodrow Wilson's presidency was the most consequential and disastrous presidency in US history.

The SCOTUS will decide to not decide until after Trump chooses to leave. The news will be that since there's so much corruption the elections had to canceled. ( what va shame)And since there's not going to be a election Trump just stays in power.
