The Profiteering System Behind the Conflict
From 2018 until just before the October 7th attacks, approximately $30 million per month flowed to Hamas through Qatarātotaling nearly $2 billion. This arrangement was facilitated through coordination between U.S. officials (including a 2018 letter from Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin assuring Qatar the payments wouldn't be considered terrorism financing), Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Qatari officials who provided Hamas an office in Doha (New York Times, December 10, 2023).
Netanyahu's Strategy: Strengthen Hamas to Prevent Peace
In 2019, Netanyahu publicly stated: "Anyone who wants to thwart the establishment of a Palestinian state has to support bolstering Hamas." This wasn't a secretāit was deliberate policy to prevent Palestinian unity by keeping Hamas strong and preventing a two-state solution. Israeli intelligence warned multiple times (2019, 2020) that funds were being diverted to Hamas's military wing, but Netanyahu continued the payments anyway (New York Times, December 10, 2023).
Follow the Money: Who Profits From War?
Members of Congress hold millions in defense contractor stocks and directly profit when conflicts escalate. After October 7th, defense stocks surged: RTX Corporation jumped 9%, Lockheed Martin rose 9%, and Northrop Grumman gained 11% (Newsweek, November 2, 2023). Elected officials who vote on military aid packages while holding these stocks face an obvious conflict of interestāthey financially benefit from prolonging war rather than pursuing peace.
Construction Companies Betting on Destruction
Israeli construction firms have seen massive stock gains during active combat:

Why would construction stocks surge during a war? Because investors are betting on reconstruction contracts. The system profits from a cycle: destroy infrastructure, then profit from rebuilding it.
Displacement as Business Opportunity
Eco Buildings Group, a modular housing company with operations in Sudan, saw a 380% stock surge coinciding with Israeli officials' proposals for Palestinian "voluntary emigration" to Sudan. This suggests investors are anticipating profits from mass displacementātreating ethnic cleansing as a business opportunity.
Energy: The Hidden Motive
In August 2023ājust two months before October 7thāChevron approved a $429 million expansion of Israel's Leviathan gas field to increase production capacity. Meanwhile, Gaza's Marine gas field (estimated worth: billions) remains deliberately undeveloped. Keeping Gaza unstable prevents Palestinian energy independence and eliminates competition for Israeli gas companies.
Hamas Leadership Profits Too
The U.S. Treasury confirmed Hamas operates a "secret investment portfolio" worth hundreds of millions through companies in Turkey, Sudan, and Algeria. Hamas leadership lives in luxury in Qatar while Gazans suffer under blockade. They divert humanitarian aid for military purposes and personal enrichment.
The International Court's Findings
The International Court of Justice issued three provisional measures (January, March, and May 2024) finding a "plausible risk of genocide" in Gaza. In September 2024, a UN Commission concluded that "Israel has committed genocide in Gaza" (UN OHCHR, September 16, 2024). Over 46,000 Palestinians have been killed, 1.9 million displaced, and 60% of infrastructure destroyed.
The Bottom Line
This isn't about picking sides between Israelis and Palestiniansāboth civilian populations are victims. This is about exposing a system where:
Political leaders on multiple sides financially benefit from conflict
Defense contractors profit from weapons sales
Construction companies profit from destruction and rebuilding
Energy companies profit from preventing Palestinian development
Hamas leadership profits while their own people starve
The cycle works like this: Fund instability ā conflict erupts ā weapons sales surge ā infrastructure destroyed ā reconstruction contracts awarded ā repeat. Every stage generates profits for someone while civilians on all sides pay with their lives.
Until we address the profit motive driving perpetual conflict, peace will remain impossible. Both Israeli and Palestinian civilians deserve better than being used as pawns in other people's money-making schemes.

Letting Israel dictate U.S. actions only further undermines American credibility. Meanwhile, the BRICS nations are moving in unison to establish themselves as the next global economic power, and that reality has both Israel and the U.S. on edge.
Israel may take comfort in framing an attack on Iran as its own decision, but doing so will only erode its standing on the world stage even further. I hope Hamas accepts this. It is the only way they are getting out of the siege Israel is putting on them. I see a lot of people hating but the deal is pretty good because it makes Israel pull out of Gaza and separately, Trump told the Muslim leaders in the surrounding nations he would not let Israel annex the West Bank.
