Pregnancy: First Trimester | This Podcast Will Kill You #168
Video Overview & Insights
Content Warning: This episode includes mentions of miscarriage, pregnancy loss, pregnancy complications, traumatic birth experiences, and other potentially disturbing topics related to childbirth, pregnancy, and the postpartum period.
The title of the video shouldâve been âAll about pregnancy testsâ an hour in and still talking about pregnancy tests
With this and the next three episodes, weâre delivering a four-part series on pregnancy, trimester by trimester. We start our series with a tour through the history of the pregnancy test: how and when did these sticks with the two blue lines become the everyday at-home medical device they are today? How has their introduction changed the knowledge that women have about their bodies and who has access to that knowledge? Then we explore the biology of what happens at the very beginning of pregnancy with some light embryology, exploring the earliest steps of implantation, placentation, and what could happen if this process doesnât go as expected.

To say "pregnant person" is honestly stupid. Women are the only one's blessed with the gift of giving life. Men are men and women are women. Don't be stupid.

i was ready to listen to all of this.... then i heard complete bull shit of not everyone that has a pregnancy is not a woman. Lost ALL credibility which sucks cause im sure that there is at least some very useful information in here... very sad. do better and dont bend your language for those who are not okay with being offended...

Scientifically speaking - only women can give birth.
So when intellectuals, like yourselves denounce a biological fact - it makes one doubt your credibility.
Ive honestly loved this podcast, but hearing this foolishness, makes me not want to listen anymore.
Does anyone know of similar podcasts but without scientistâs trying to âstand upâ for a minority who are sensitive to the truth?

You lost me when you said that you know that not everyone that is pregnant identifies as a woman.... what? Is this even relevant for the subject? Only women can get pregnant, period. If a woman that is pregnant identifies as an elephant, should we generally start calling women "IT". Cause we want to be inclusive? This video is not worth my time, glad you cut it short for me!
@momochi536I have had a very split stance on my body my choice, because I will never understand ending a potential life because âI donât want a babyâ. Iâve really sought to understand the viewpoint. Your segment on miscarriage medical treatment and the methods was very helpful for me to understand why elective abortion can be so important. So I want to thank you both for that.
@kcard7539Disgusting talk about trans crap
@manyplanetsThe girls are beautiful, the podcast must have been nice. But the satiric thing about it is that we are talking about females, not âmothersâ or a person who doesnât identify as a woman, itâs female mammal at least. Yes, in some social groups for humans it is used as mother, but talking about childbirth and being âpolitically correctâ isnât something that should be promoted. In science racism is also ânormalâ as it provides the need to safe your own race and create new babies of the same kind. On an ethical, political and economical reason of course itâs bad, for sure. But I do not understand if you are a scientists and you are talking about how things work, use correct form. If a person defines as a cat, doesnât mean that the person will have kittens. Itâs only females that can give birth in humans.
@kkwolekLost me in the first 4 minutes đ disrespectful to women.
@graceobrien1458Currently in my first trimester and whoa it's been a WILD ride. It's my first pregnancy ever and had no idea how it affects EVERYTHING. At this point a finger could fall off and if you told me it was a symptom of pregnancy, I'd believe you lol
@mysticmeow13Omg everything looks interesting till you say you will speak about women in general terms. OFC! ABOUT WHO YOU GONNA TALK ABOUT ABOUT PREGNANCY THEN? Only us can have babies, whether you feel like one or not, if you can have babies then is all you are!!!!! Let's stop living in this fantasy world that just send us back in evolution!
@JMonteroG04:00 ⊠lol âŠ
@lovethatheals1They lost me at gender neutral language. I thought in 2025 we could at least agree that only females can give birth, mental identification notwithstanding. It's the science!
@proservices23131:24:37 LOL,in the wide-angle shot of both Erins at the table, their mic stand looks like Fallopian tubes.
@christinemarie6976Everyone who experiences pregnancy is a woman.
@colinmcintosh767YOO this is on yt now??? Awesome! I love this podcast and Iâve been wanting to be able to comment on episodes forever!
@UserMcUsyfaceFabulous episode. Although⊠small confusion, am I missing mention of risks with miscarriage (not to mention excruciating pain) in the choices of intervention v expectant care?

@ALDeArmittwow am I the only one over here sobbing at that one story told by a listener?
@ambear3000Thank you so so much for including trans people/ people who dont identify as women in your research and language. as a trans man myself, it really does make a difference to hear yourself finally be included in the conversation. â€
@eatsbeesThe evolutionary bio phrase is âOntongeny recapitulates phylogenyâ - Ernst Haeckel or the theory that development is a brief reenactment of evolution đ€
@Kook941-v8wI've been listening since I was in highschool and now I'm a third year medical student. This podcast was so inspiring at so many points in my academic journey and I cannot tell you the amount of times I thought to myself, god I just really want it video format and be able to see your facial expressions and all. Almost squeeled in joy when I saw the instagram annoucement!!! SO excited for what's to come next! Love you Erins đ„°

@alexaballanceRHINESTONE pregnancy tests i can't get past this!!! anyway this is very cool and informative! and i like the people's personal stories interspersed throughout
@NatalieCastle95Been listening to the pod for years and itâs so fun to actually see you! During my pregnancy I had the opportunity to participate in a research study on the effects of pregnancy on heart health, which was exciting because I got to contribute to research thatâll benefit future generations while getting extra prenatal care. And, 12 years later, I still periodically get follow up surveys to complete for the study. It warms my nerdy heart to know my personal data might help future pregnant people.
@catgirrl87I've always appreciated the Erins' vocal reactions to nonsense. Seeing their facial reactions along with hearing their reactions is just wonderful.
@IdhrendurBeen looking forward to this series!!
