Playstation is about to be for a niche of captive customers that are either too poor or too unaware to go elsewhere. The digital move is about taking away customer choice more than anything. Look at Sony's other products. Also expensive and niche. There's a way to do this right, but that's not their goal.

I guess now that explains why next year, and later this year, we have soo many exciting things coming to gaming.

That's some bullshit! 🤬 Even though I play on a digital version of PS5. I'm 56 and disabled. But you don't have to worry about your disc getting scratched and won't load the game anymore. Plus they require that you stay connected to the in order to play any game.

Since the PS2, Sony has been trying to fuck us out of backwards compatibility, all for profit. Now with upcoming generations of consoles they are looking to fuck us out of owning our copies of games at all, heading toward monthly subscription fees just to play the games. There will always be retrogaming.

Sony was phasing discs out at the start of the generation when they released a model without a disc drive. Then they released the Pro without one. Anyone who didn't see this coming wasn't paying attention.

We do have the power to not buy it. Really. Do not buy it. They need return on investment and if it flops you'll see a major course correction. The problem is the sheeples who just go digital. 95% of the UK/US buyers... not looking good.

It’s like a Fascist version of Capitalism Sony are not the only ones dictating the world we live in.Regardless choice is now limited I can’t or won’t pick up games I might have played and took a chance as there was a physical copy on sale.I no doubt will continue to own a play station in the future but as an older gamer doesn’t affect me as much anymore compared to a younger person.Very annoying.

Many of these people are upset just to be upset. The argument is that nobody is buying a "code in a box," but that's what these physical games have become—just a code in a box. When you buy a game these days, it's not plug and play; you have to download it. Then they talk about something they own. Well, last time I checked, you still have to use the console (that you paid for), which still makes you subordinate to the rules and standards set by the console developers. Also, even if you had the physical copy, if that game is discontinued, you still wouldn't be able to play it because it wouldn't download once you put the disc in.

The only thing that kept me on Playstation (and Nintendo) consoles were physical games. When it comes to digital they just don‘t compare to PC in the slightest.

PC storefronts don‘t get shut down when new hardware releases (PS3 and Vita store shutting down just got announced as well).

And you have actual choice on PC where to buy your games digitally. Even GOG exists to let you keep completely DRM free installation files of your games.

There‘s no reason to choose consoles over PC in an all digital environment. Which is why I‘m jumping ship now. Steamdeck got me to dip my toes into PC gaming. And now I‘m making the full switch. Goodbye Playstation.

Ofcourse digital are selling more when you are givin them for free on ps plus or for 5 or 10 eur and old games that alot of people dont care much if they are physical, they just want a quick grab. Wait when brand new games come out who the hell is gonna invest 85 eur or dolars for something that you dont own and gets deleted in time. Sure we will wait few years for price to drop and then buy for 5 eur or 10 wich is not alot, but still this adds up year after year and for you deleting few thousands of eur/dolars worth game collection is not something we are supporting soo you can put price 1500 on ps6 and put it in coffin and bury it. I think this is the end for consol era then. One of the reasons consoles could compete with computers was the price and physical media that you could collect, fast and optimized system that worked fast and reliable. Now price is high and there is no physical media and games are expensive. Its better to buy them then on computer for 30% smaller price at launch or even download them from pirate sites. And steam looks like its gonna stay online for many many years its not a generational platform that is gonna be replaced by Steam version 2 app and delete all our games. I mean CMON sony? what the hell?

Wow! I play my ps4 daily, I never bought the ps5. I was holding off for the ps6. I wont be buying the 6. Thanks a lot sony. I own every ps console except the 5, only bc well financially i held back on purchasing it. This is beyond disappointing 💔 greed is disgusting 🤢🤮

Learned years ago to keep getting physical discs for the games that really matter. I regularly go back and play games from every console. Currently playing N64.
