Passion & Betrayal: Helen Mirren & Helena Bonham Carter | Where Angels Fear to Tread | Full Movie 4K

Video Overview & Insights

Lilia Herriton (Helen Mirren), a wealthy and eccentric English widow, decides to escape the stifling control of her late husband's aristocratic family by taking a long holiday in the sun-drenched hills of Tuscany, Italy. Accompanied by her younger friend Caroline Abbott (Helena Bonham Carter), Lilia shocks her conservative British in-laws when she falls madly in love with Gino (Giovanni Guidelli), a handsome but penniless young Italian local. Horrified by the social scandal of her marrying a "foreigner" far below her class, Lilia's rigid brother-in-law Philip (Rupert Graves) and high-strung sister-in-law Harriet (Judy Davis) are dispatched to Italy to bring her home. What starts as a comedic mission of British snobbery soon spirals into a profound, tragic, and life-altering clash of cultures, forcing all of them to confront their own repressed desires and the true meaning of love.

Sad and depressing😢

A wonderful film adaptation of Forster’s first novel. The characters are complex , and the acting is superb. Helen Mirren’s radiant Lilia is a golden light that shines through despite her inevitable fate and all the darkness that therein doth ensue.

I'm thumbing this down so I don't accidentally watch it again. It's British people being tragically unfunny.

Judy Davis has the role of a woman with such anger and malice…giving this film the edge of what was not possible … who was responsible for the death of the baby..the absent father or those kidnapping him.

The baby was kidnapped, then killed. No investigation, nobody seems to take responsibility. Everyone has went about their business.

Good acting but the Story Line was Sad. She caused the Baby’s Death his Sister. But I suppose the overturning of Carriage cause the Death. She shouldn’t have stolen it in the first Place.
