Parents Ditch Baby on Hot, Florida Beach

Video Overview & Insights

A family beach vacation in Florida turned into a criminal case when hotel staff and beachgoers reported a six-month-old baby had been left alone in a beach tent for nearly an hour while her parents, Brian and Sara Wilks, walked down the beach with their other children. Deputies investigated, determined the infant had been unattended for approximately 56 minutes, and arrested both parents on child neglect charges despite their claim that they simply lost track of time during the baby's nap. I think the punishment is justified, I hope that they do better as parents after this. It's just not the same as leaving your baby at home in the crib for an hour. Too many things can happen at the beach!

I do think they’re likely more bothered than they’re showing on the surface. It is all odd behavior though. Then again, this is the first I’ve seen so it’s hard to picture what “normal” would look like.

"She naps during this time, yeah.. sorry about that" It don't matter if the infant is napping you don't leave an infant alone on a public beach or anywhere for that matter. 8:17

I couldn’t imagine leaving my child alone at all let alone for almost an hour on a Florida beach in the scorching hot sun in a tent by themselves 100% by themselves let alone in today’s world that that’s just pathetic and sad 5:54

I've never understood why just anyone can have children. You have to have a license to drive a car to own a business but just anyone can breed. Absolutely ridiculous.

Recently i left my 13 yr old in the car with my baby and toddler while i ran into the grocery store really quick. My toddler told his brother her had to poop and my 13yr old completely spaced that the baby was still in the car and he brought our toddler in the store. I happened to see him and my heart sank. Baby was alone in the car less than 1 minute and I was convinced in that minute it took me to get from in the store to the van that someone already took him. He was fine. I cannot imagine leaving him purposefully......for 45 minutes...

Flabbergasted 🤯 were they leaving the baby to be kidnapped 🤔 that should be investigated...

Of course the baby is ok, Karen

This is a TWO parent household. There is no reason one parent couldn't have stayed with the baby, while the other one let the kids go for a walk.

That baby could have been kidnapped, could have choked on something, could have crawled away, if she was crawling, who knows what could have happened.

What if a young kid came by, saw the baby, picked him up and thought "hey let's go play in the water together", and then the baby drowns or gets swept out to sea.

When my daughter was that age, I wouldn't even leave her unattended for 5 minutes to go to the bathroom, let alone an hour on a beach, with strangers and an ocean she could be swept away in or drowned. Absolutely unbelievable.

We all know this isn't the first time they did this, it's just the first time they got caught.

I wouldn't turn my back on my dog or purse for even 1 full minute, let alone a baby. Wow.😢

These parents are absolutely unbelievable. Who leaves a baby alone? I don't even leave my phone or keys unattended at the beach.

What stands out to me is how calm and unbothered they seemed, even while being confronted by the police. There are so many red flags here. It doesn't feel like the first time they've made a decision like this.

The situation could have ended tragically. The baby could have overheated, been kidnapped, or even choked if she spit up, especially since they said she does that often. I can't understand how they managed to take the rest of the children with them and leave her behind.

If the baby needed a nap, they should have taken her back to the room. They were going there anyway.

As a parent, I can't imagine doing this. I don't even let my kids out of my sight in the grocery store. They stay right beside me, holding onto the cart and my hand over there hands holding onto the cart, I always know exactly where they are.

They wanted to terminate that baby outside the womb, no different to the psychopaths who terminate babies inside the womb.

Someone needs some birth control if they can't handle the kids they have.

@meganmays6063

I would of let them sit in that hot box with no ac. No different than what they left their 6 month old baby laying in a tent with 100 degree sun shining down on the tent. No different then sitting in a car with it's windows closed and no ac. Dumbasses.. If I was a judge they wouldn't get their children back.

Us kids were free range growing up. My parents gave us freedom from young ages but wouldn’t not have done this.

When I go to the beach I have a tent and I left my baby inside to sleep but I sure didn’t leave the area I’m not getting my baby kidnapped or him passing form heat exhaustion.

Who these days leaves a baby alone, much less on a beach at 6 months old when they can get sunburn and dehydrated

@amiehicks6423
@

They "lost track of time"? They shouldn't have left the baby AT ALL. One should have stayed while the other took the other kids to swim. They should have one of those front slings to carry
the sleeping baby with them. I've seen babies sleeping in them while carried. "We were right there". People were looking all around for them for at least half an hour. What liars.

@hma237
@

They are so casual about it.😢

@aussiemouth747

What the frig people!! Get some shade over this baby immediately. I don’t care if someone has to hold a towel above the baby’s head! Open one of those umbrellas and stand under it. Something! My first thought immediately …..

@cindykronick2502

Even in California, You are Not supposed to leave any infant no matter how quick your trip Alone! anything can happen!

@estherk4485
@

The baby could've been kidnapped!

@kellyjohnson5663
@

Honestly if they were just playing in the water right out front of the tent they would need to be in trouble. The fact they just think it’s okay to leave her like that is insane.

@christinraines6645

Mind boggling!

Disgusting. She wants air conditioning. Better kid did too

@jeanettetaylor2276

These two are the absolute worst parents on the planet. Absolute worst.

@coffeenut3808
@

They were so far away they didn’t even know deputies were on the beach!!

@kellydoerr9725
@

They need to stop having babies. Obviously they can't cope. It only takes 5 minutes for a predator to snatch a baby - then they would never see her again. At least not alive.

@Jezebellum-l2u

What in the new parenting is going on here? 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢 These people$^%#^@^^$&&@^&*×%#^#

@creativeness68

That’s a big 6 month old baby! They was probably hoping someone took the kid and they could cry like victims!

@VictoriaKing-ui8mx
@

So one parent takes a walk with the older kids and the other stays with the sleeping baby. Why on earth would you leave a baby alone on the beach and walk away for an hour? You know these parents have left the baby alone other times and places. They didn't even seem alarmed when they saw police and a small crowd around the baby.

@gardenplots283
@

Lemme guess: “pro life.”

Always Florida..... smh

@CarrieAnn77
@

The police should have just pretended the baby was stolen when the parents came back to the beach. So they will think about the actions they have taken.
