Outside Chicago - What's It Like? 🇺🇸
Video Overview & Insights
Just beyond the bright lights of Chicago is a completely different world out in rural Illinois. Come on an adventure with me to see what's happening close to Chicago, but a world away.
I just received this message,
"Hi Peter. My mom’s is 90 year old Margie and she is in one of your recent videos. Outside Chicago - What’s it like. My name is Deborah, one of her daughters, and I am writing you to thank you for this wonderful gift… you see, she had a stroke 8 days after you interviewed her and now her right side is paralyzed and she doesn’t say many words. She is living in her house on the farm, but requires 24 hour care. Me and my three sisters and other family members are doing our best to keep her happy and comfortable. I just received the YouTube link from a cousin and am loving all the comments people have written about her. She has always been the most amazing woman, mom, friend to all who know her. Thank you so much!!!"

Steward Illinois resident. I was hoping you’d head a little up north to check out the twelve mile corner and rural Steward/Ashton but still very cool to see your perspective on Paw Paw/Compton. I have a ton of family in both so very cool ‼️

Why the heck are people thinking the US is on the verge of a food shortage? This country has the most square miles of farmland and exports over $170 billion in crops.

Chicago might be the 3rd largest metro area in the country...but Illinois is still more farmland than not! Western IL is an entirely different world, and I love having both.

I’m a big fan Peter. I have watched every video you’ve made. This one is my least favorite. This is pure victim mentality that doesn’t need to be promoted. This guy literally blamed everyone for the decline of south side Chicago except for the people that are currently dragging their neighborhood down. How about focusing on the ever increasing drug and alcohol problem? How about the high truancy rate of children? High teenage pregnancy? High single motherhood/fatherless homes? High gang violence? Even he admitted he wouldn’t let his own children walk the streets at certain times and places. Is that because of immigrants? Are cops making them commit violent crimes? Did white people conspire to destroy their neighborhoods? Come on man! I’m an immigrant. My parents did everything by the book and it took them 19 years to legally immigrate. They worked two jobs, working menial jobs, making minimum wage. They didn’t take a dime from welfare and managed to raise us right, with morals, and a work ethic. My brother and I have a nice house, live in great neighborhoods, never been arrested, and never blamed our set backs on anyone else. We got up and kept working. Our kids are college educated (paid by us) and none of them have ever been in trouble. America, especially if you’re born here, affords you the opportunity to make something out of yourself. All you have to do is work your ass off and stop blaming everyone else. Because while you’re sitting there feeling sorry for yourself, some immigrant, who doesn’t speak the language, and doesn’t know the culture, is working, educating themselves, and passing you by.

MAGAt Illinois
MY GEAR 🎥
Sandwich is technically the first town out of the Exurbs of Chicago that is considered truly rural. We now live in Hinckley, Illinois and there is no stop sign or stoplight here.

I lived in Sandwich and one town over is Plano and that is where they shot the Superman-Man of Steel movie in 2013. It was interesting to walk at 10 pm down the main street set. One day they had helicopters that kept buzzing over where I lived and on one of the last days there were huge explosions.

These rural people that hate that big cities because they don't feel their votes should override rural votes...I don't like that California has two Senators, and Wyoming has two Senators.

I grew up in Chicagoland, and ended up knowing shockingly little, about the rest of the state. I was aware of places only as far away as maybe Rockford, Peru, and Kankakee.

I support Nelson,why not use the roofs in Chicago for solar panels?? Why are you using up the same lands that feed the owners and occupants of the buildings in Chicago??....I think that's more sustainable than using up farmlands....
Thank You All!!!
Nelson makes a whole lot of sense.

It is a contrast. Once you leave "Shitcago" the rest of the state is basically republican and rural. Springfield, East St. Louis and Chicago are the only democratic cities in the state. And they use all the taxpayer dollars for those three cities while the rest of the state falls apart.
@MsMadmax1No Starbucks 😢
@miabrower-u4zI need a quesadilla
@miabrower-u4zdrivin truck full time workin farm part time drinkin beer not much worry
@IgorVadkovskiall true in michiana about big solar
@Mark_James_HillMy mom has a farm in DeKalb County it is a Centennial Farm been in the family well over 100 years. Best topsoil in the world here. She rents her land as many do because of the expensive equipment required to farm these days. My grandfather stopped farming in the 1950s if that tells you anything. There are some families with 1000 acres or more that make a lot of money. Boring area for sure but the land is nice was all prairie at one time. Anyway enjoying your video.
@timhiland3908Have you ever been to Northeast Iowa, right by the Mississippi. My grandma lived her entire life about an hour from the Mississippi river and close to the Upper Iowa River in a small town, Cresco. Decorah is a small university city about 20 minutes east of Cresco and that's where you find the slow life and beautiful scenery. There are rivers, bluffs, caves and people who will help you out without asking for anything. They will spend 30 minutes asking about you just because. I'm a little subjective. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago but I spent many summers in Cresco growing up. I was so lucky. Anyway, safe travels!
@aknudsen93Just watched this video and was amazed to see Peter at the church we got married in, 35 years ago, in Rollo! Paw Paw is where my wife was raised.
@johnsavage5377Amen Nelson! Such a wise man.
@gingerlee4241I'm from southern Illinois. They think we're hillbillies
@jennifermurray6245I spent many summers as a kid in the country at my grandparents house. I knew a lot of those ladies like the one in your video. The iold couples in the country were the best people in the world
@Souped-upJalopiesSolar panels do not leak into the ground..
@rickyjulian496Oil refineries have a lifespan of 50 years. They also need replacing..
Tractors currently operate for 5-7 hours. There's a new battery on the horizon. It will give you 12 hours.
The home battery storage can be trickle charged then offer fast charging when needed.
Yanassa TV needs to go interview this truck driver; Nelson.
Now we know he was 100% correct!
Time to get mules or get control of the enviro terrorists.
One or the other…it has to be done.
Come out to Durand
@jordanmeisch9862Nothing outside of Chicago in any direction for like 800 miles 😂
@mrocean8139Windmills also release toxic chemicals and you can´t recycle them once they (the windmills) break down.
@watamessYou missed the coolest Illinois town. Galena IL. Home of general grant. Ghost stories. Unbelievable shops and some of the best food in the whole state.
@slamminsam8558Small solar panels for charging phones, tablets and even some appliances is one thing. Massive solar is a waste of resources. It’s constantly breaking down, no reliable and insanely expensive. That goes for battery power as well. It uses more “ fossil fuels” to develop and maintain them than they give in energy. It’s a complete hoax to scare people
@Brett-s9zWhat good are solar panels when there’s no food to keep people alive to utilize them?
@mozisgrimm140This was the first episode I came accepted about a year ago. It was so fun to watch. This is all just outside where I live and have spent so much time in some of these areas, and so many just like them. It is true so many people from Chicago, my family included, never come out to “the sticks” and how little they understand what is just right outside of that massive concrete jungle.
@NoShelfLifeHQNelson's accent is amazing
