He’s actually right handed, he did all this and just flipped the video. Brilliant! His wedding ring is on his “right” hand instead of his left. 😂

Open source / libre / public software means that the recipe of instructions made by programs for your computer to execute is public, freely viewable / seeable auditable, something like Wikipedia.
This model of code development means that the open source code offers much better:
- Privacy
- Security
- Freedom
- Performance
- Power efficiency
- Productivity
And a few other advantages like the code and software compiled from that code being tested by more people on more platforms.
Have a look at the following free (as in freedom, liberty) / libre / public projects:
Linux, LibreOffice, KDE (Plasma, Krita, Kdenlive), Proton (WINE, VK3D)
MPC-HC, VLC, Kodi
AOSP, F-droid

You are making it look boring and to complicated when in reality its not.
If you want to explain to people what is open source software you first need to explain what is source code. And is it realy that hard to explain. No its not. So explain people what is source code and than it will be easy to explain what is open source. No need for 6 minute video after which people still wont understand a thing.

Thank you sir very nice gide & very nice best explain open source teaching video.👍

misleading title. it causes wondering how it is that someone would give away all his work for no reward, and actively help being exploited.

But the title of this video would be "history of open source software".

Hi. Can you tell me why developers would like free access to commercial grade source code and the ability to extend that code? What benefit would they get? And ‘extend’ means to improve or contribute to the code, yeah?

Contributor focus!

@nftkarla
@

None of what he said means much... it might just be the mechanics of a few big projects... the real goods is the legal stuff with the licensing agreements...

@nickhuynh6321
@

1) repo - basically a platform which makes it easier for both the contributor and the maintainer
2) contributor - the guy who changes the code
3) PRs - pull request; the thing which contributors send to make their changes
4) committer - evaluates the PRs + implement it if good
5) foundation - when a project becomes too big, it is named a foundation
6) lawyer/os license - the set of rules which state how the code can be distributed, used, modified n stuff
- most commonly used = GPL (general public license): it guarantees 4 freedoms (freedom to run, study, share and modify)
7) village/community - when a project becomes somewhat big, then the contributors, committers etc collectively are known as the community
*how do i start? --> just do some bug fixes

Selfish Microsoft is the primary owner of Chat GPT via their OpenAI corporation! Chat GPT is simply an experimental version of AI that steals your ideas (Political, business, creative) and gives you a carrot: Text, etc., that is subpar. Warning: Stop using Chat GPT. It is a legally protected patent, trademark, or service mark that will not help humanity in substantial ways but will steal our ideas, as it simultaneously tracks our individual user and group ideas and patterns, then uses it all to benefit the elite, particularly those at the top who own Microsoft. OpenAI should be called SELFISHAI, ClosedAI, or MicrosoftAI, but MS knows many of us are onto their global cabals and secret agendas.

open source is controlled by big tech, they sponsor what they need, open source devs give away their work for free to big companies

what is the difference between open source and free software ? 😅

@uzumakinaruto5065

What happens if you are the open source and applications are outputed via to prevent you or infiltrating your systems or finding infomation? How to fix?

Good explanation. Sadly ironic given IBM's attempt to bring Rhel back into proprietary control.

@paulreader1777

that sounds great, how does one begin to go about finding bugs? I have used beta software in the past and those typically have ways to report bugs that are found. is this what you would recommend or are there other methods of bug hunting?

Patent law covers computer software, not copy right. You do not copy write a wheel. Machine code. Machine.

Patent law provides for free or low cost technology, they expire or owners can charge little or nothing.

Creating open source however, has relied on copy right law, which is a no no. It has violated copy right law, which provides unconditional transformative copy writes, a power Congress reserved, to create more, not free intellectual property.

So then open source is one of two things, patentable, or not. If not, it is free anyway. If it is patentable, but you do not patent it, that is called patent abandonment of your 'discovery'.

We can also go to the most basic levels of patent law and say a cpu unit and hardware are so general purpose, that software can not be patentable since there is no other way to run the machine, but by eventually duplicating the code of others, even if working independently.

I have no way of knowing that can or will happen. The results of ignoring these concepts has damaged economies, as software not being run through a patent office, has cost people time and money trying to run machines with broken drivers, software and bugs.

AI? AI now stands for Automated Intellectual property theft? Where are the foot notes depicting source data? You know, like when you did a paper in college, you have to provide source material?

This is exactly why I loudly complained when Google began scraping web pages, instead of just exposing robot page data or customer provided copy.

So why should I or you create content, knowing hundreds or thousands will just index it and add it to their portfolio?

This is why Word Press became so popular? You could easily scrape content of another site, apply a new theme, and voila, Jersey Boy on Social Security has a blog on Yoga, a real expert?

And you felt like crap trying to fix his plugin he spent some money on, hoping to make a couple hundred extra bucks to supplement his income, and knowing he had no prayer running with a group faster at creating new content then he could?

Lets not talk about the lady who figured out how to feel good with yoga, she was stupid enough to share? Horrors. I don't know how these people sleep at night.

That part of the industry makes the rest of you look bad?
