More User Perspectives
This video by Dr. Justin Sung focuses on improving learning efficiency by eliminating passive learning (0:12) through cognitive load regulation (0:18).
Key takeaways:
Cognitive load (0:32): This refers to mental effort. Effective learning always requires high mental effort, while passive learning (like simply rewriting notes or rereading material) involves low mental effort and is largely ineffective (0:45).
Active learning techniques (1:10): More effective learning methods demand greater cognitive load. Examples include creating summary pages, transforming information into nonlinear and relational structures, and simplifying concepts to teach to someone else (1:13-1:27).
Identifying passive learning (2:27): You can recognize passive learning by a feeling of low mental exertion, boredom, tediousness, or drowsiness during study sessions (3:01-3:12). These are "red flags" that indicate a need to optimize or remove such activities from your study routine (2:46-2:50).
The benefit of removal (3:14): Dr. Sung suggests trying to study without these passive techniques. You will likely find no significant difference in what you learn, saving a substantial amount of time (3:22-3:30). He shares his own experience of realizing that 90% of his study time was wasted on passive methods (3:41-3:48).
Anyone noticed his shirt changed 😅

@KhathijaAkCan you make any video regarding
mathamatic study skills
Bro is just yapping the same thing again and again
@rabnold53276Tell me then, how to remember vocabulary
@shinzo_994Still. Reading a book on the subject and/or watching a video on youtube on how to solve differential equations is a good start. Better than doing nothing. But then you have to start solving those equations yourself over and over again. We did that with friends in pub waiting for the next lecture. Super effective and fun. Beer wasn't healthy but otherwise...
@randomlist100I totally get the cognitive load part! Olovka’s AI citations make my research feel less like a chore and more like a discovery journey.
