Inside-out and you are on a deceleration path to hit the ball while outside-in is the opposite. At same hand’s speed you will hit it not only straighter but also longer

Instead of showing how to manipulate the clubhead`s path, it would be more efficient to focus on what the body needs to do. In your practice swing, we can clearly see how you exit more to the left and sometimes with an open clubface, if the club drops down too far. Amateurs need to feel how the club is thrown up and then falls onto the correct plane. If they only swing their arms up and down, they will find the correct plane. The body has to respond to this plane and "make it possible": If the lead shoulder goes up, the trail shoulder goes down and so does the shaft. The lower body has to move out of the way. Just using the hands and circling around will lead to more compensations.

@zachallengolf, what is the device you have attached to the shaft to help with magnifying feeling the balance point as demonstrated in the video. It does not appear to move when you swing so guessing it clamp tot the shaft somehow?

With all due respect Zach You are from Cali… you would naturally pick Tiger especially being he is the same age. Most older greats consider Hogan the greatest ball striker all time on the PGA tour. Moe Norman is also in the Conversation but he didn’t really play on tour. And Tiger is correct there was a 3-4 stretch on tour where Nick Price was the greatest striker on tour. His swing was like a piston up/down and like an iron Byron

I think that’s the secret to hitting the ball well. I have been hitting it a lot better lately by bringing my right elbow as close into the body as I can when I come through and it automatically shifts my weight forward and the club feels like it’s coming from behind me on the way through 😊⛳️

Tiger said “Anthony Kim” is one of the best ball striker’s he has ever been around. This was just before Anthony retired/disappeared years ago. He said when u walk down/across the range at the PGA Tournament, Anthony Kim’s balls just make a different sound when he strikes the ball. Totally pure.

Hi Zach; Unfortunately, I must correct your statement about Tiger's choice of best ball striker. His answer was partly a caveat when he asked "in a tournament situation?" He's said before that his pick would be Moe Norman as have others.

I heard good things about Byron Nelson and Johnny Miller in the early 70's when it comes to ball striking.

Wow thanks for the TIP. I just tried it and it seems to work just as you suggested by hittng some easy shots. It defineltey helps you in "STOPPING COMING OVER the TOP" and as you said the rest just falls into place. I WILL you this dril in "all" of my practice sessions. Thanks for the tip.😬

Nock Price lol. Tiger was / is a very stealthy troll when it came to giving out, how did Arnold say it in Pumping Iron, "all the wrong advices", as he goes on to conspire with Ken Waller to hide Mike Katz's nasty sweaty wife beater tee shirt he loved so dearly.

Anyway, Tiger was in vintage form here as he too understood the gamesmanship of giving out all the wrong advices, as proposed by his hero John Matrix, played by Arnold in Commando.

Nick Price lmao . Tiger wanted all his fellow competitors swinging out of their shoes and losing their rhythm and tempo; oldest trick in the book.

Greatest ball striker he has played against was the question, not the greatest ball striker of all time. That is going to be either Hogan or Moe as Tiger has said that they were the only two who owned their swings. And of those two it would be Hogan as Moe just hit it straight, Hogan could work it.

So how do i hit a fade all the time 🤔

Part of the problem is all the teaching that the club must be drawn back to the inside. Along with yanking the club way too far inside, many players also roll their hands over at the same time. If someone makes a proper takeaway and gets into proper position at the top, it's much more difficult to come over the top on the downswing. So although this drill is a good way to develop the feel of descending from the inside and letting the body's shifting weight handle most of the power creation, the real work to create a proper downswing path needs to be done on everything up to and including the first 24 inches of the backswing IMHO.

This is pretty much what Hank Haney teaches in his driver slice proof swing method. The clockwise, exaggerated swing. It does work, takes some getting used to.

Zach, your swing has always been pure. Never over the top. Basically straight back, a swing plane that travels on a line from the ball through your neck, excellent flat-left-wrist-forearm position at the top, the same path down and through the ball. Simple and repeatable. To demonstrate the worst over-the-top swing in golf, put up a video of the commander-in-chief and say do the opposite of this. Then again, even Sam Snead had a bit of an over-the-top move, and he did all right. So does Victor Hovland. And of course Seve looped to the inside.

Hi Zack, working hard on swing mechanics with my tour coach (I'm not a tour player). He's a stickler for correct technique. It's hard but I love it and it's paying off. This drill looks like an excellent addition to reinforce what we're working on. It also looks like a great warm-up drill to add into daily practice or to come back to once a week or so, even for a few minutes. Even more so, it seems it would be a great "corrector drill" for when you're out on the course and you notice the tension building up, old habits coming back, that out-to-in tendency rearing its ugly head again.
