One thing I really enjoyed about this film was when she would talk you wouldn’t see her face or mouth a lot of times. It was creepy and disembodies her.

the comparison to Zooey Deschanel startled me because I've always thought she was much too uncanny valley looking. Her eyes don't look human. They look like plastic doll eyes.

I also thought the entity and wishing willow was related to witchcraft, because Nicki did weird things during the witching hour she acted otherworldly and demonic standing in the corner moving not lie a human, (killed Sara notice the time was 2:45AM when Sara texted Bear to meet up). She cut Bear's hair (witch trope), She had an altar for the cat and altar for the couple (I thought she was going to use Bear's hair for like a ritual. The Talbi Cat company just made me think its owned by a witch who bewitched willow twigs to capture souls dumb enough to make a wish.And those other toys around it, I bet back story also cursed from the same company. Then she became more demonic and looked like an emaciated witch at the end.

Bear was a immature idiot and Nikki was a modern day promiscuous woman who got the short end of the stick. She would have made the exact same wish as bear to lock down a abusive cheating chad or tyrone but if it would have been that way somehow she would have been the innocent victim trying to defend against them.

Ok so one of the most twisted parts of Obsession happens in whats probably the movies most famous moment.
Film hit so hard. Brilliant.
I started to have flash backs to when I dated someone with bpd. The extreme instantaneously switch from nowhere. From love that loathing. The self harm monologues. The apologies after.

In it Bear confronts Nikki about her faking her dads cancer and we see her breakdown because they were having a nice time. However, rather than denying or saying hes wrong she simply says something so they can go back to the fantasy. Nikki is asking him not to break the illusion because this is what would destroy Bears wish. She even asks.
49:09 funniest scene in the movie. Definitely needed a good laugh at this point lol.
Why does it matter
Because if things seem right on the surface then what does it matter if something darkers going on behind it.
I felt so bad for Sarah Ik it was coming was not expecting that 😟

@jackgaughan2039I know that it’s heavily stated that Bear is really the bad guy here or controlling … although I can see a little of that, it’s important to remember that Bear is a young guy in love, so he’s going to make the typical mistakes that you only learn from as you mature and have more experience and get older. So, I think he’s put in an impossible position and will easily make these mistakes at the cost of her. I don’t think you can really put it all on him, I don’t think he’s such a terrible controlling guy, but rather young, and dumb and will inevitably make these mistakes.
@jesse100829:00y interpretation at this point was she was looking for love, and she suspected Bear loved her and she was willing to explore that possibility. She knew he liked her but she was testing him. When he chickened out it proved he was only romanced, and that's what made her upset. She was probably frustrated that while she's looking for love all the guys in her life are interested in her superficially. She probably didn't like Bear in that way but she loved him.
@Da_ShroomsI'm taking a different view on the opening diner scene with the waitress. In role play, Bear expresses his honest feelings for Nikki and his honesty woes the waitress. This is the only moment where Bear expresses his real feelings. The interesting note is as the waitress softens towards Bear, Ian gets rid of her because Ian doesn't want Bear to actually be honest with Nikki. In the car, Nikki gives Bear a chance to be honest and he can't do it; it was his moment to pull out some flowers and candies as the waitress told him. None of the 4 main characters are honest with their feelings. Sarah finally tries in the van to express her honest feelings and Nikki kills her. When Bear and Nikki are making out at the store, Ian grimaces at them, exposing how he really feels. Another interesting honesty angle is Nikki's social media posts Bear is creeping on. Most people only photograph themselves at their best, so Bear doesn't see the real Nikki in those posts either. Hmmm, dad Andy Richter is dishonest too, in the college denial scene, Richter says let's get back to work, when what he wants to tell her is to please don't leave me. Good commentary.

@LorenovationTo answer one question you had, the shop assistant starts saying 'that'll be 7...', which I believe she would have finished with $7.49 or 7.50 due to the California sales tax rate being 7.25%. Hope this helps to clarify!

@Beto_the_chicken_guy23:02 - I don't think you're reaching necessarily, but Americans add tax at the checkout rather than on the items so it is likely just that.
