Film description: It has been three years since the Clone Wars began. Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker rescue Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous, the commander of the droid armies, but Grievous escapes. Suspicions are raised within the Jedi Council concerning Chancellor Palpatine, with whom Anakin has formed a bond. Asked to spy on the chancellor, and full of bitterness toward the Jedi Council, Anakin embraces the Dark Side.
Unpopular opinion: Obi wan had to walk backwards the whole fight, making it even more difficult š®

Jesus Christ, compare this to lightsaber duel in a New Hope.
@talkativeviewer871:15
Obi-Wan was determined to end him right there.
noticing that obiwans lightsabour hilt changes multiple times
@Baysideam0:52 i love how it goes from being anakin's lightsaber to obi wan's lightsaber and then back to being anakin's lightsaber in 3 separate shots back to back
@QIG377Man the soundtrack hits hard
@PizzaGaffSeeing this in the theatre back in 2005 with my dad and sister was epic.
@ryans4132:44 This shot here exemplified the passion these two had as jedi wrong or right
@CollegeDropoutPowerpointsWow⦠just wow
@santiinx737its crazy how obi wan move backwards the whole fight even when he jump on the pipe
@t.gchannel40672:40 Peak Cinema
@monstermash1571Anakin couldnāt break Obi Wanās form 3 Soresu on top of that Obi Wan was the only Jedi familiar with Anakinās fighting style and mindset. Quite literally Obi Wan was the only one that could stop Anakin
@Sandwich14-e9c3:37
āALL I EVER DID!!! WAS TO MAKE YOU ALL PROUD OBI WAN!!! TELL ME HOW PROUD YOU ARE!! TELL ME! TELLLLL MEEEE!!!ā
People complain of this fight being over choreographed. My argument against that is the extreme force sensitivity of two prime Jedi. They know every upcoming move, every attack, every block with amazing precision. Iāve always loved the speed and fury. Makes it far more intense in my opinion.
@mattfisher6901Youāve gotta understand - I grew up in the ā90s, and the only thing I knew about this fight was that Anakin came out of it as Darth Vader. I had NO idea that one day, weād actually get to see it, and it would be like THIS.
@incaseyoudidnthearitObi-Wan and Anakin move like demigods in this movie, and Iām quite certain it occurred to George Lucas that this makes their Death Star duel look incredibly slow and clumsy in retrospect. But the more I think about it, the more I believe it was intentional. This duel is the swan song of a golden age for the Jedi Order. After Anakin (the Chosen One) is defeated and the Jedi are hunted down and destroyed, the galaxy of ANH is spiritually exhausted. Warriors can no longer move as they once did during the Clone Wars. The Emperorās regime killed the warrior as the foundational power in the galaxy, and so hope and belief in the Force were forsaken. Cynicism becomes the prevailing philosophy. Power then takes the form of middle-aged dullards in gray uniforms signing orders and pressing buttons. Compared to the Jedi Council, these bureaucrats are a fallen eliteāone that wields machinery instead of supernatural power. Thus, power is transferred from man to technology, from the Jedi to the Death Star, where Obi-Wan and Anakinās rematch is reduced to a pitiable sideshow. When the Millennium Falcon lands on the Death Star, nobody has fought with a lightsaber in years, nobody has been trained to use one, and the ways of the Jedi have been abandoned. Vader never fought again the way he did on Mustafar, and neither did Obi-Wan. They have their fight, Vader cripples his son, who then returns to soundly defeat him.
All of this is discarded by Disney. Vaderās suit is impressive and intimidating, but it is also sad and pathetic if you consider why it exists. Underneath is a disabled, tortured man who betrayed everything he once believed in: his breathing is permanently laboured; the sunlight never touches his skin; he is burned, bald, and heartbroken. Anakin, by contrast, was beautiful, loved, and supremely confident. Vader is hideous and worn down. He is a frustrated, raging failure, never content. His desire to kill everyone around him and restore what he helped destroy is a subtle yet core dynamic of the original trilogy that is often skimmed over in later material. Vaderās life is hell. He hates what he has made and what he has become. He is no longer the demigod he was in ROTS. He is a coward filled with immense regret. In many of his initial demonstrations of power, his abilities serve more as embellishment and theatrical effect than genuine dominance as we see in the battle on Mustafar. After all, what does Vader really do in the OT?
Vader never actually does anything that Grand Moff Tarkin cannot also do in most cases. This would have been unthinkable during the Clone Wars. The once daemonic jedi knight becomes a bitter and cruel codger who fuels his power by inflicting pain on his underlings. On screen, we see him execute men bound to him by duty or held at bay by soldiers. His only true opponents are an old man who allows himself to lose and his son. Star Wars is therefore terribly cheapened if Darth Vader is repainted as an all-powerful mythical god of the new Imperial universe. Technology and authority, taken to their extremes, merely allow him to act with some sense of dignity. But the Anakin of the Clone Wars would have humiliated him in any sort of contest. People are afraid of Vader in ANH, not because of his prowess or skill, but due to his position in the empire. His real power lies in wielding authority, intimidating others, and leveraging the few tricks he can still perform thanks to the fading remnants of his Jedi training. Watching this fight puts things into perspective: Vader is not an invincible humanoid demon capable of effortlessly dispelling any threat, but rather a physical and emotional wreck who relies on the fallout of the Clone Wars to conceal his shame and weakness beneath a grand and imperious faƧade.
3:41 he looks like evil Luke here
@timesupeaI love sound of that! Star Wars. And the music
@OmarsHeroeWorkspace-h6pThe best fight scene in the Star Wars prequel trilogy of all time. Anakin and Obi-Wan are my favorite characters. Love that lightsaber spinning at 1:23
@ricardomorales8969The fact that the director had to ask them to slow down always amazes me.
@Felix_Bobelix1:22 this is insane!
@YouKnowLosOne of my favourite Star Wars duels of all time, but everyone gets the caption wrong- it's Obi-Wan vs. Darth Vader. He's already Vader. Ppl associate the suit with Vader and Hayden's baby face with Anakin, but you're witnessing the first duel between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader in this fight. Context is key.
@xonhpeiObi wan is old anakin destroy him
@davidvelichkov2824Anakin will never defeat Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan is veteran Jedi Master and Anakin still a padawan.
@MiguelSantiago-n3qThe best duel in history of cinema, I always love watching it
@REDA21217My God, even the first ten seconds of the fight is god-tier... The sheer speed of the lightsabers clash...GOOSEBUMPS!
@kingskid1985We truly peaked as a civilization back in the 2000s.
@yardslammer009kennedy2Damn this doesn't feel like over 20 years. I still hype that movie!
@retrogameguide87Battle of the heroes and duel of the fates are the most impactful duels in all of star wars.
Duel of the fates was the duel that single handledly decides the fate of Anakin Skywalker.
While battle of the heroes is the duel that determines the state of the galaxy
Had to look this up and fuck I forgot how incredible this whole scene is.
@RebirthXeroEvilI'm telling you, these 21 years since this movie came out have been absolute garbage to us...
@DARTHMARC0720Probably my favourite fight in all of cinematic history
@ijustlikeliving0:58, I always wondered what Anakin saidā¦
