Line matching is an art that takes years to get good at. I’ve coached against teams that were more superior on paper But we’d win a playoff series because I’d be like matching while they roll their lines. Higher levels it’s essential. Your breakdown was excellent.

Can you make a video showing what mistakes Wayne Gretzky made as the Head Coach in Phoenix?

SO many, "commentators" or, "fan pages" don't understand these basic terms and concepts. Kudos to you for being objective!

All the comments are talking about how you are able to explainaspects of the game but not the subject of the video. They all talk about how you can explain the game like they have never seen before. You supply a unique experience that people appreciate and will eventually blow up your channel.

hey coach!!! i'm just about to start playing ball hockey (been playing pick up but I want to join the league in the fall) and i've never played hockey before. i watch a lot of nhl and I LOVE the way you break down plays and techniques but out on the rink, it's so much harder to see and understand, new perspective i havent experienced before!!! do you have any tips for a true beginner or any videos youd recommend? not on technique (theres lots out there for that) but more on plays?? I'd appreciate any input you have. Thank you and thank you for the fascinating and enlightening breakdowns !!!

There is no, "no duh", as most people here are probably not hockey experts and appreciate a whole picture approach. You are really very good at that. Thank you for being unique, your niche, and explaining A-Z without skipping, even if you are sometimes brief along the way, you retain total context by not skipping steps. For myself, i know bits and pieces, and your teaching style here fills in gaps better than anyone Ive heard in the 35 years Ive watched and played hockey. I never had a hockey coach. No one explained it in pee wees. Keep being verbose and meticulous, it serves a greater good.

Best way to move up for players to get off the fourth line, skate faster, play harder, think smarter, and don't take stupid penalties. Less offensive, be a lock down defender, get ice time late in the game to keep the leads. I think the Panthers line combinations are way screwier then I ever saw. Not only are going from the 1st line to 2nd, or 3rd, you go from 1st line to scratched, back to the first line, then fourth, then scratched again. Mackie going from the 2nd line with Bennett to not seeing another game after the 1st round. Not even good enough to get into the 4rth line. Time to hit the gym and play better defense. Uvis covers for Ekblad, scores goals, and oh sorry you are being scratched as well.

When was the "ah-ha" moment in hockey when coaches started thinking about possession and position in this way? I am assuming somewhere between the loss of the rover and the advent of the forward pass, and last season? Can you do a video on the history of hockey theory? I'd be interested in the thought changes from when I started watching to today.

You should try to pronounce Luostarinen again. Dude is an incredible 2-way hockey player overshadowed by even better 2-way players on his own team... you are going to be hearing his name a lot over the com g years as he gets his recognition

@okletsgetoutofhere
@

TLDR - the NHL found rocket league and implemented rotation logic and now line matching is where they try to gain the rotational advantage

It's wild that you made this video, because I meant to comment during your last lesson that I'd love you to explain line-matching if you could (since you mentioned it a lot in your videos during the playoffs). You rock, thanks for your content. Sincerely, that Blues fan who's been in your comments since the Winnipeg series haha

This is the video a budding hockey nerd wants to see. Thank You! I can't wait to see you make a video where you breakdown the jobs and roles of each position and the different player types (two-way, pure defense, sniper, playmaker, special teams specialist, etc.)

I had a question but if i would show patience and let you finish ,you pretty much answered it! Thank you sir , easily the best content for learning the true ins and outs of the game is right here

Great video! I played hockey for ten years till I was 16 years and after that have been a fan. Your videos gove Great and straithforward explanation how the game is played. I wish this kind of discussion would be more on the mainstream like intermission to teach hockey. Yes I understand TV is more for entertainment…
