I have a list of over 25+ reasons to move to and live in Connecticut. May I list a few?
.5) Half of the US Navy's submarines, 1/4 of all jet engines and 1/5 of helicopters IN THE WORLD are made in Connecticut. - BTW, the first submarine was invented in New London, CT.
1.) History: Although vehemently denied by the Smithsonian, the TRUE FIRST IN FLIGHT honor goes to Gustave Whitehead who flew over 1/2 mile in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1901, 2 years before the Wright Brothers. There are plenty of investigative reports that bear this out, some are on YouTube, & the State of Connecticut & the City of Bridgeport legislated a special day honoring Gustave Whitehead for this achievement.
2.) Climate: Conn. has the stable range of all 4 seasons (without the danger you see on the news of some areas in the US) with beautiful foliage in the Autumn, try Route 7 up the Housatonic River, dotted with Covered bridges, restaurants and antique shops all the way to the Mass. border.
3.) Sports: 2 AHL Hockey Teams in Bridgeport & Hartford (newly renovated stadium), 2 Baseball Teams in Hartford and Norwich, CT. (Hartford Stadium described as best new stadium in MiLB). There are 4 ski Mountains in Conn., 4 NASCAR Racetracks including Lime Rock Speedway which is frequented by more than a few movie stars. There are over 170 Golf Courses in CT both public & private.
4.) Universities: Home of perennial NCAA National Champions UCONN & Quinnipiac, also Yale University in New Haven, CT now rated among the top 10 Universities IN THE WORLD. Connecticut also runs its own State-level High School System that will teach your children a trade of their choice such as Nursing, Plumbing, Manufacturing, CAD design & more already PAID FOR INCLUDED BY YOUR TAXES and help them qualify for a Professional License. How's that for a good start for any 18-year-old? This state-run High School System has its own campuses and sports teams that play against the local High Schools and other State High Schools around Connecticut.
5.) Vineyards: There are over 35 Vineyards in Conn., with award winning vintages. Some even have their own restaurants making you feel like you're in France!
6.) Military: CT is the home of the US Coast Guard in New London, CT and also a US Navy Submarine base in Groton, CT. BTW, you can tour a real Navy sub FOR FREE at this Naval base in Groton.
7.) More history: Capt. Kidd is noted as depositing his treasure on an island up the Connecticut River and along the Housatonic River near Stratford & Shelton, CT. Ancient history has a historical site called "Gungywamp" near Groton, CT and is said to date all the way to about 500 AD & is credited to ancient Celtic explorers.
8.) Travel: The are over 30 airports & airfields in Conn., some offering Regional and International flights.
9.) Zoos & Wildlife exhibits: There is Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport plus 2 Maritime Museums in Norwalk & Mystic, Connecticut, with live hands on exhibits. There are also smaller ones like at Hammonasset State Park along the Connecticut Coastline. And of course, the Zoos in NYC, Rhode Island & Boston are an easy drive from Connecticut.
10.) Proximity: As mentioned, NYC & Boston are an easy drive from anywhere in CT (1-1/2 hrs. on average), so you can work, visit, and enjoy what they offer, but don't have to live in the middle of their overcrowding, crime and resource starved cities.
11.) The Connecticut coast is dotted with almost 50 islands, (off Norwalk & Branford CT) and 14 lighthouses, some you can AirBnB, others have homes, lighthouses, one was the Summer White House of President Taft and another island has a US Wildlife Lab & pavilion you can access by water taxi, and the Park Rangers there will tour you the island for free. There are water-tours available of these islands called the Thimble Islands.
12.) Connecticut is home of famous stars such as Meg Ryan, Michael Bolton, Paul Newman, the Carpenters, Katherine Hepburn, JP Morgan (yes, that one), Suzanne Collins (from the Hunger Games), Daniel Webster (Webster’s dictionary), PT Barnum (Barnum & Bailey 3 Ring Circus), Charles Goodyear (Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.), Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and the Mayor of Mexico City both lived in Litchfield County, Conn., Cartoonist Gary Trudeau, NBC’s Jane Pauley, Actress Glen Close, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane, US President George Bush & still others.
13.) Agriculture #1: The 3 largest dairies in Conn. have over 2,000 cows each and are a very large supplier to famous cheeses like Cabot cheese & others. Some of these dairies you can tour for free - they use huge rotary milking platforms to do 'their work' and each herd happily co-operates!
14.) Agriculture #2: Connecticut is the nation's largest supplier of black currant and a major (very major supplier) of: lavender, apples & sunflowers.
15.) Castles: There are 7 castles in the State, besides the huge mansions that people build, some are in State Parks, along the Connecticut River, some you can tour and rent out for your affair, and one is due for an extensive renovation in Danbury.
16.) The Connecticut coast has 14 lighthouses, 1 is on it’s own island, some you can tour & at least 1 you can stay overnight in (Old Saybrook)
17.) If casinos are your thing, Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun & MGM are about as famous as you’re going to get, all in the Mystic CT area.
18.) There are a plethora of Museums & Theaters in Conn.: New Haven (British Art Museum for one), Hartford Art Athenaeum (50,000 pieces of art from Caravaggio, Cole & Van Dyck), Bridgeport has 4 museums, and just saw Jay Leno in the Warner Theater in Torrington, CT and also the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT.
19.) America's oldest running newspaper: Harford Courant, America's first amusement park: Lake Compounce, Bristol, CT, First College Art Museum: Yale University, New Haven, America's first phone book: New Haven. The hamburger was invented in New Haven per the Library of Congress, and the Frisbee was also invented in New Haven. And....Columbia Records (yes, that one) had it's only record pressing plant on Barnum Ave. in Bridgeport.
20.) ESPN now calls Bristol, CT as "home".
21.) More than a MILLION tulip flowers every year on display in Preston, Connecticut (Wickedtulips.com).
22.) Litchfield, CT was the site of the first Independent Law School (est. 1784) and the first College dedicated to women (est. 1792) called the Litchfield Female Academy.
23.) Consumer Reports has located their auto test track in Connecticut. (Next issue see what license plates are on the cars.)
24.) With all these achievements, Connecticut is still considered 60% woodlands (that explains the moose, black bears, wolf-half breeds (or coy wolves), and bobcat peppered throughout the State), and CT was described by a NYC News Reporter as living in a "huge park-like setting".

Shelsky’s is “doing something different”? You mean doing the same exact thing done in nyc for 150 years? Please see Russ & Daughters, and Barney Greengrass, icons, just to start. Just because the midwest transplants in Bklyn and tourists are not familiar does not mean it is new.

6:20 when I think of New Yorkers, I think of people I’ve met who live there who think New York is the center of the universe, are super jaded, genuinely overworked and sad and drink all the time. I’m happy to hear not all New Yorkers are like that.

@adtchuuhyPlot twist: this isn’t a food video, it’s a stealth documentary on how to weaponize friendship. You’ve basically crowdsourced the ultimate NYC cheat-code from the exact people who’d normally gate-keep it, then wrapped it in shots so pretty I had to check I wasn’t accidentally streaming Chef’s Table. My bank account already hates me—see you in five boroughs of overdraft, boys.
@stains-s9oWent to download the app I can't get it because I'm not an iPhone user when are you going to come to Android
