Nacho's Dad Being Wholesome For 20 Minutes | Better Call Saul

Video Overview & Insights

Manuel Varga really got the short end of the stick. Revisit his scenes from Better Call Saul!

He is a true Mexican

— @charlesaguirre6681

00:00 - S02E02, Cobbler

01:41 - S03E09, Fall

15:10 nacho wishes he did that sooner, or never got involved... Such sadness in his voice

— @SizemicKick177

04:36 - S04E02, Breathe

06:50 - S04E04, Talk

Nacho doing the opposite of running... If only his dad knew...

— @SizemicKick177

09:05 - S05E03, The Guy For This

13:21 - S06E03, Rock And Hard Place

Would have been nice to have a couple extra happy or okay endings or so. Walt, Hank, jr, Skylar, Marie, Jesse, his gf, brock, Saul, Kim, Howard, Hank's partner, Bogdan's eyebrows... and Nacho and Mike... All of em got very sad and painful endings... Jesse lived and got free, but at such an enormous cost... Like every ending of any decently constant character is bad.

I love that despite BB and BCS having some of the most horrible killers and drugdealers that they both show that there's still some good people out there, like Nacho's Father like the mechanic that helped nacho

Every scene with Manuel Varga was a tough watch for me. He reminds me a lot of my own father in his difficult relationship with me. He just wants the best for me but he can't keep hiding from how he really feels about the choices I make. Granted, it's not a fair comparison since I'm not caught up working for a drug cartel.

Most wholesome character in the Breaking Bad Saul-iverse? My vote is actually Lyle, assistant manager of Pollo Hermanos, second in command to Gus Fring.

Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

The shot of Mike behind the chain link fence and Papa Varga on the other side representing imprisonment and freedom is truly one of the best of the series if not all television.

16:23 you can tell by nacho dad how hard , He works in the shop from morning to night just feel bad for the old man Just shop but he works so hard If only not you turned out like his dad he would be different and everything would have been good If you didn't hang out with the salamancas those psychos very single would have been good also too cool and then Lalo.

When Nacho goes to his dad when he’s injured, papa Vargas switch from chastising him to the gasp when he sees him is sooo good

@pippaschroeder4388

Michael Mando is such an actor.

Nacho's father was the only genuine and consistently ethical and moral character in the whole show. Great writing and casting.

@dsugimoto313
@

This could have all been avoided had Nacho said anywhere other than Jalisco when Don Hector asked about his father’s distributor…

0:22 I love that little subtle gtfo gesture

@neroidius6915

Nacho no necesitaba esa vida.... el ya lo tenia todo con un padre asi...

@carlosduarte5150
@

Papa Varga wouldn't even dare look at the money while Walter would fill an entire storage unit with it.

@McSquigs
@

I can't prove it but, with all the family crap with the Salamancas, Lalo would have tried to save both Nacho and his father if Nacho just changed loyalty.
The thing is, if he did that, he'd work for Don Eladio and Nacho has no guts for the full cartel job.

I like to think all the old people (Side characters) in the BB/BCS universe hang out with each other for morning coffee or something 😅 Papa Varga, Ed the Vacuum repair man, Old Joe, etc

@ARCAM11

The quality and realness of his acting is Amazing

You can feel like the scene is real footage

Impressive

@pablomendoza9535
@

I just wish he'd not been so naive. You can't just leave. You can't just go to the police. If you do, everyone dies. Mike saved Manuel, but saved him to have no son. This always makes me cry. Poor Manuel.

@badtvbad1

I would move heaven and earth for a man like Nacho's Dad. He's perfect.

@doberchic
@

Always love how Mikes accent sticks out so much in New Mexico lol

@Fat1990
@

Idiot he threw Nacho under the bus by not taking the offer and moving away instead insisting on going to the police. I bet Nacho would find a way of disapearing on his own if he didnt have to worry about his family

@legevo2271
@

"Ni madres!" I love when Papa Vargas says that.

@tlo2433

nacho's dad. only decent person in the whole series

@paulsiegel2915
@

11:00 I always thought this was a good idea, but bad execution from Nacho. Should have made Gutierrez make a low ball offer, but with a long term royalty clause.

@mr.j6243

Papà Varga is genuinely the best character in the whole Breaking Bad universe. I would like to see a tv show focused on people like him, working hard and doing the best to remain a honest person even when defending his principles is dangerous.

@Maurizio-fk5tn
@

11:39 This whole scene compilation is gut wrenching but this moment stood out for me a bit. Papa Varga wanted different life for his son, to live as a decent person, even if not rich. But he says it with this sadness, like he already knows that it is not going to happen and it will end bad.

@LadyMngwa
@

he was an idiot whose actions led to death of his son

@deviatlon
@

0:24 I don’t know if this is intentional but I like the subtle way Nacho tells Mike to get the hell out

@Turbotom-f4q
@

If every business man was as honest as papa Varga what a world it would be

@michaellee8815
@

This guy is basically a Mexican version of my dad

@michaellee8815
@

I felt that in my soul when nachos dad said if you wanna run we’ll run but me I’m not running no madres good hearing that in Spanish reminds me of grandpa

@osbaldohernandez9174

The eyes of Nachos dad when he said "My boy's gone...." are the same eyes my grandmother had when doctors told us my mom has no brain function anymore....what an actor...

@misfit_gems

The glass of milk at 2:55 is showing Nacho is a child confessing to his father.

@Hugo-tk5ew

The only one with morals

@TheOneWhoLiftz
@

It's not revenge. It's justice.

@7beers
@

The fact he even stood his ground against one of the most feared Cartel members cemented him as the GOAT

@PopeLopey
@

Something interesting, he never condemns his son, only holds him accountable, provides moral guidance and whatever support he can. His father was a good man, the best one in the series.

Why "Varga" and not "Vargas"
