So in the name in salary transparency, I've decided to reveal my salary and offer details as a software engineer living in NYC. I also decided to through in my monthly expenses so you can get an idea on what living on this salary is like!
I’m looking to becoming a soft wear engineer . Is it hard ? I’d say I’m pretty smart but not a genius or anything like that .

@JullianLueThe reasoning behind why you don’t want a higher pay job because of inflation is silly and dumb. Inflation won’t matter much when you can increase your comp to 300-400k.
Also, you know how I know you’re still young? You mentioned you rather work for a company that values work life balance and blah blah.. guess what? At the end of the day, you and I and everyone else are just a number on a spreadsheet. If the company needs to get rid of employees then they will do it. It’s just business.

@picture4432Young fella…old man here also in software development for appx 25 years. That 3.5k you have left over, pls save at least 2k a month. Our industry is volatile and you will want that nice savings in times of leanness or when you get older and either want to start a family, and/or start a business. Try to save at least 100k+ and invest in some in solid stocks and index ETFs. Not fly by night long shots. And last thing, Make sure that you invest in your company’s 401(k) plan. If you don’t do anything else but invest up to the companies match, please do that that’s free money.
