My Identity Was Stolen…

Video Overview & Insights

My health insurance company got hacked and my information got leaked. I was able to get 1 year of free monitoring but I just went ahead and froze all my credit. I have one debit card and one credit card where if it’s used I get notified right away, at this point I will leave my credit frozen until I get a mortgage to keep it secure.

Listen up People. No matter how secure you think you are, the new norm is hacking the very business you patronize, even ur Doctor offices, It seems everyone or business are getting compromised. After my health care provider was compromised, I gave up. I no longer give any information screw them. There is an agenda at hand. Think about it. They want you to use either crypto or your credit card so they can monitor your spending. Used cash, it's your only hope to remain ominous!!

If you had ID Theft Protection with Zander Insurance when this happened in 2013, why didn’t they alert you about those accounts being opened?

What should I do if I virtually provided my social security number and mother's maiden name via an employment offer form and W4 Form? I got an offer to work from home for a company as a Graphic Designer? I emailed them the employment offer form and W4 Form. They have that form on file already with my social security number. What should I do?

Thanks for the video and sorry you were compromised. I am very much fearing this as I have money in some of the fintechs that were compromised from Evolve Bank and Trust. I thought it was bad that they locked my accounts, but the identity theft threat even worse.

Informative af. Thanks. Just found out yesterday that my ssn was compromised.

Heading through something similar rn. I had an employer fish out my ssn and then aura procced. I also recomend placing a freeze on chex as this bad actor is/was? Trying to set up checking because not all banks will check your credit.

Tha kfully I knew I medded up before they did so I locked down everything

Im going through a situation now due to id theft...this, even though I was paying Experian to protect my identity.
Their big failure created quite the mess that some jackasses still try to use to accuse me, the victim.
As far as I am concerned, I notified the authorities...after that, its on them.
Im not accepting any responsibility for the actions of pretenders or lenders using stolen id...its on them.
All the best in your battle.
Lock credit file and have id protection...its better than nothing.

I do NOTHING online. I had someone use my identity to fraudulantly obtain Medicaid. The workers didn't believe I never worked in California. 😂 I told them, "You are the government-look at ALL of my addresses for the last 20 years!" 20 years of moving, never leaving Washington, going back to 1998. Oh-yeah-not me! 😂

All this talk about robbing cash (in other videos elsewhere). Mr. Kamel just said it affects about 40 million people just in the U.S.A last year on identity stuff which a lot is digital. Another reason to have a bit of cash on hand as that cannot happen to you from around the world like the digital stuff can anywhere from an internet connection while you make it though if a bank account(s) are involved.
Didn't you just say in another video elsewhere on this channel that you did not have a printer? "Thanks Dave" for using the work one.

It’s all about cyber attacks now a days. At hospitals , medical offices, Equifax breaches and then some!
No matter how careful you are it’s happening because of maddening attacks like this sort of thing. 😫

Instead of changing passwords every 90 days, use a password manager to create unique and challenging password for each account. Never use the same password on multiple accounts.

I have had my identity stolen and sold across the US. They opened 6 different cell phones and cable companies. Fun fact: utility companies use small credit bureaus like LexusNexis and a few others. I had all 3 major credit bureaus locked but it didn’t matter until I locked the smaller credit bureaus also.

My husband had one credit card number stolen from card we only used to pay our local electric company. Still have no idea who there took it. Thank you capitalone for being so quick to notice "unusual activity."

I went to a new doctor and filled out the required information forms and was naive enough to put my SS number down on the form because it was requested. The next day I received a call from a phone company store verifying that I was the person requesting to purchase a new phone and she read my SS number back to me! It was local and I knew the only place I had given out my SS number was the doctor's office, ended up filing a police report. Now on any doctor's form, I leave the SS number off.

Freezing your credit is a great option. My husband and I froze our credit years ago, and we "unfreeze" whenever we know a credit check is coming (like when we moved to a new rental place). And set it to automatically re-freeze our credit after a set amount of time (i.e. one month)

While I understand that the ramsey team doesn't like credit cards I don't understand why they never talk about theft. Credit cards are safer if that info gets stolen. You can almost guarantee that you won't be on the hook for that money. It could be way worse if someone got your debit info. I'd rather have money that isnt mine stolen than personal money from my bank account. A regular debit just doesn't offer the same protections like credit cards.

@bengunn6571

Please please please close your unused line of credit accounts!! We Dave Ramseyed ours and we had our bank account hacked and 4 months ago someone got in and took out 52k. The bank will not cover it and we have been fighting with them for months 😢.
