You absolutely can live in $52K a year when living in your parent's basement. Perhaps find an 'entry-level' job that's not in the most expensive city in California.

completely understand where you are coming from, and it is a complaint I have heard quite frequently over my 16 years in the IT and security industry.
There is often a significant disconnect between expectation and reality when it comes to both red and blue teaming. Pop culture and training courses tend to glamorise the roles making people think that entering cyber security means constant, high-octane hacking or effortlessly stopping sophisticated threats every single day.
In reality, whether you are on the offensive or defensive side, a massive portion of the job involves meticulous documentation, log analysis, following strict processes, and dealing with a lot of routine maintenance.
It is easy for newcomers or those looking from the outside in to think they know exactly what the job entails or believe they know everything after getting a few certifications. However, the day-to-day reality is rarely a Hollywood movie. Managing those initial expectations is often half the battle!"

Love the story, CyberMaddy!

The technical support aspect alone makes it not worth it. I only developed depression because of tech support.

Patience is a virtue. And learning the out of the box stuff will stand you well ahead of other candidates in the future.

Aren't people looking for other jobs when the current one is fuccing you in the butt

MSPs are the worst. They pay you little and pile on the work load. I'm good at what I do and I have great soft skills, so clients were begging for more time with me over anyone else. They would offer more money to the MSP. I never saw a cent. When I was offered a job with another company (non MSP), they offered me double what I was being paid as a salary.

Are you able to be out in the sunlight because you’re a day walker like Blade?

You wouldn't have been legalised in a government lead through narcissism. They are a personality disorder trying to organise you into their world while doing fck all about themselves. There is no security when leadership lacks morality.

No company is taking advantage of me like this. You should have left that first job they were toxic as hell and were clearly bullshting you for that six months. You should have took they other job and walked right out.

I am developing something outside of binary that is a revolutionary and I'm brand new at this I am amateur but I'm a meditating the yogi who wants to develop something in the field of The Theory of Everything Is mind-blowing and it's crazy but what would we do with a a unified equation of all possibilities and their potentiality to manifest and or create

The only way to survive working entry-level for an MSP in the US is to live anywhere else but the west and east coasts...and the Chicago area. Utah's good (that's where I'm at; decent job market, still relatively cheap, but getting worse), Arizona's okay (if you like the heat), Texas is fine (if you don't mind the occasional tornado or flash flood), or maybe Denver area in the suburbs (except for Aurora; that's where all the shootings happen). However, west and east coasts are no-gos, unless you want to live in a run-down studio apartment for $5k/month or, as Maddy said, in your parents' basement!

My first dev job paid 14 dollars an hour, and this was in 2012. You put up with the shit for a bit to bounce to another gig. At least, that's how it used to work.

Never agree to stay if they are matching your offer, unless you know what are you doing.

I rent a house with a big yard in a nice county of a major city in the US, I have a big dog that eats a ton ( and I feed him fresh not kibble ) I pay my bills before due AND I make just under 52K a year! So no Idea what she is complaining about!!!??? GD this young generation is so ruined 😕

You can't survive on a $50,000 US salary? omfg...... my wife makes $50k Canadian.... cry me a river.... our money is worth 30% less, our products are more expensive and we are TAXED TAXED TAXED way more than you..... americans are literally delusional... THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS LESS and you still cry. gtfoh.

You just sound like you want likes for your video and views . Cyber is very lucrative for the right person

@theodrake2394

That’s just kind of how big pay bumps go. They revolve around job offers and switching companies most of the time.

@thefryinallofus
@

That sounds so incredibly familiar.... Work at an SMB for ten years... Started out pretty much as a normal helpdesk admin function but now we're talking NIS2 implementation, compliance, MDM, writing policy for management to sign off on, evaluating suppliers and applications and being the cybersec guy. Raise? Nope, not even remotely up for discussion. Training? Nope. Yet scope gets ever wider because I am one of those quitly capable people like you seem to be. And loyal too. Too loyal. Had a burnout over that....

@bonrra
@

You guys are getting paid?

@Coolbre3zegaming
@

Wow. $25 an hour to start is insane and the fact you had to work for so long with no pay is even crazier. Good on you for sticking it through and finding what makes YOU happy. Cheers

@streamsnhighlights

I like how genuine you are, natural and pure, no editing, just raw dogging the video without heavy editing. I love it. I just subbed

@NatanaelPetru

I'm not convinced that it came down to much more than "aggreableness".

@TheEdge92
@

"they didn't pay me for 6 months because I had to learn the ropes", how stupid can you be to fall in that trap?

@indridcold2872
@

So you're saying it pays off in the long run to let the company exploit you

@easymoney480
@

"Didn't pay me for 6 months to learn the ropes." I can't believe that's still happening. If you add value to the company, you should be paid.

Currently making 52000 a year with a masters degree, because teaching is sure SOME kind of a profession. At least I've got a great union. But that's one of many reasons I'm going into security - if I can make the same money at entry level and not get treated like dirt by teenagers all day it's already a step up. Helps that in some states you actually CAN live at that salary. But more sure wouldn't hurt.

@ianburns1167

I hope you see this @Cyb3rMaddy. Im myself a young who got the chance to rise quickly in the world. Im a passionate of computer and programming. I dont have any degree on programming, i just learned by watching vids and reading articles on google. My suggestion: dont mix up your passion with your job. Any business just want to make money or save cost and thats the only reason they exist. This means repetitive tasks and uninteresting developments at 90% of the time and the 10% will be either outsourced or given to seniors and the pay will be bad.. i think the best would be do a job and start to build your own business.. let me tell you straight it WONT be easy.. but after a few years youll start to get there and hopefully youll be able to be your own employer. Life aint easy but again survive first then thrive.. only then you will make your passion your job.. and as the saying goes do what you love and youll never have to work another day of your life 😊
