I am both a Floridian and St. Augustine resident that has lived in other major metro areas. St. Augustine has been a perfect fit for my family, however, I do have to offer some criticisms that I deem negative:
1. The biggest issuse here is adapting to the neighbors; the bigger influx being from the U.S. Southeast, their idea of community living is much different and ours, you have to learn compromise in order to minimize aggravation
2. The traffic issues discussed are correct, 5 years ago it was not the case. Nevertheless, driving here is much preferred to driving in other cities (excepting the habit of drivers here ignoring stop signs and right-of-way rules)
3. Regarding the flooding issue, I hear this complaint lot from residents, even citing global warming as a factor. Historically, though, flooding has been a part of this city since the 18th century, so it is a regional issue!
4. General services I categorize as poor, especially the police and sheriff's office. All traffic issues could be fixed if these agencies and the county/city governments were to put their full effort into managing the problem
Outside of this, it is a great city to live in if you feel St. Augustine to be the right choice for you. Best of luck.

ok last summer my cousins and i visited St Augustine Last summer and we enjoyed our Vacation there we are going down again this summer and were looking forward to coming down my family are biggest fans of the towns and night life and shops and restaurants

You're talking about downtown area. Locals don't go there, unless we have family visiting. It's cheaper in the country and there's no hurricane damage.

St. Augustin is unique, but way too touristy to live in year round. Great to visit, but not live in. But you get that. Lots of places like this like North Sedona, AZ.

I've been there - lovely but the traffic and parking are irritating. My family lived in Jacksonville for decades, and she is not lying when she says the wear and tear on houses, homes, boats, ANYTHING, is constant in Florida. Repairs will eat you alive. Insurance - SCAM. I think of Florida as a nice place to visit (I still have family there) but not a place I want to live. The heat (and alligators - they are everywhere there is water) are just not for me.
