In all the many Holy Writings of the Baha’i Faith, no other Country has received such praises, which had attracted me when I became a Baha’i in 1962. Now 87, I never expected it beginning in my life time, so thankful to be living in our multi cultural peaceful Country, respecting our indigenous Peoples.
🇨🇦 It should be noted that Iran is the home of the Baha'i Faith, where the Baha'is have endured fanatic religious persecution since 1844 with over 20 thousand martyred, even to this day. On the evening of May 23,1844, The Bab (Gate) 1819-1850. like John the Baptist, declared the coming of
"The Promised One", foretold in all the Holy Scriptures. Abdu'l-Baha was born that same evening. Throughout the World the 1840s was a period of great religious prophetic expectations and scientific development. Spiritualism and seances began, Uniting the Here and the Hereafter. Thousands of Americans attended Spiritual Gatherings. This interconnection of Realms diminished by the late 1920s. When Joseph Smith founder of Mormonism was asked if he would see the return of Christ replied, shortly after his death. He was killed June 27, 1844. On May 24,1844 Morse sent his first telegraph message, “what has god wrought”. -- What happened during the next 6 years would go into history as one of the most brutal oppressions of a religious minority. The Bab was martyred July 9,1850 in Tabriz, the 1st, a Persian regiment of 750 soldiers all missed. Then a Russian regiment of 750 was summoned. Upon the death of the Bab, heavy winds, an earth quake and plague set upon the city,. Most would die,under falling rocks, or for desertion.
🇨🇦 "The Promised One", Mírzá Ḥusayn-Ali Nuri. 1817-1892, was born into a prominent aristocratic Persian family, possessing innate knowledge was raised without any formal education., devoutly religious preferring doing charitable deeds. He became one the foremost of the followers of the Bab.
Subsequently losing all his family properties, cast in the deep dungeon jail for four months, where he became aware of his destiny. Later writing, “When I contemplate, O my God, the relationship the bindeth me to Thee, I am moved to proclaim to all created things “verily I am God”; and when I consider my own self, lo, find it courser than clay.” Then banished to Bagdad arriving April 8,1953. On April 29,1863 in the Garden of Ridvan in Bagdad, proclaimed to be "The Promised One", taking the title Baha’u’llah or The Glory of God, as he, family and followers totoling 72 were further exiled, ultimately to the Prison City of Akka, Palestine arriving Aug.1868. His writings number in the thousands and along with those of the Bab and Abdu’l Baha’i are safely secured for study and publishing. Acceding May 29, 1892, in his will appointing Abdu’l-Baha as the sole Center of the Baha’i Faith.
🇨🇦 Abdu’l-Baha now 68, after 56 years an exile and prisoner, in 1912 traveled to America, declining a ticket on the Titanic for a less expensive ship to New York. He spent 239 days, travelling to Montreal and the West Coast via Chicago where the majestic Baha’i Temple now stands. Becoming known as The Prophet of Peace, foretold the coming of WW1, visiting 49 cities addressing high and low alike, how one should live as one people in one country gaining great Media attention. Many adopting his teachings; Phoebe Hurst wife of Senator George Hurst, the automobile Dodge Bothers who later visited him in Haifa, Carol Lombard actress. Later being Knighted by the British for his humanitarian work in Palestine during WW1.
🇨🇦 In Chicago, meeting Rabindranath Tagore, 1861-1941, while staying in the same hotel, forming a life long friendship that transcended time and place. In 1913 Tagore received a Nobel award for his poetry and had adopted Abdu’l Bahas manner of dress. Becoming India’s foremost Cultural Icon, writing both India's and Bangladesh’s National Anthems, founded many schools, a university and a prominent writer and artist. Today there are many Clubs around the world honouring his life and humanitarian work. He supported the Baha’is when ever he could. In New York City, Dec. 7, 1930, at a public meeting said, ”The first Prophet whom we know in the history of man was Zoroaster who preached God as a universal truth of unity, the eternal source of goodness and love: it is significant that in the same soil of Persia which gave birth to him arose another great prophet of the modern age, Baha’u’llah, who also preached God as profoundly one, in all races, tribes, and sects, the true worship of whom consists in service that has reason for it’s guide, and goodness and love for its inner motive purpose. We are here tonight to offer our homage to Baha’u’llah. He is the latest Prophet to come out of Asia. His life is certainly a glorious record of unflinching human search after truth; and his message is of great importance for the progress of civilization.”
🇨🇦 The Baha’i World Centre is in Haifa Israel on the side of Mount Carmel, where the Shrine of the Bab, the Archives Building and The Universal House of Justice, UHJ, Administration Building are located, surrounded by the magnificent gardens running up the mountain over looking the harbour.
The Baha’i Faith is now the 2nd most wide spread Religion in the World. With an abundance of original Holy Writings, there is no need for Clergy.
The Faith does not ask for, or accept donations, other than from Registered Baha'is. The administration for the Local, National and International levels having 9 members each, is based on the writings of the Faith. No one should seek or promote others for office, only through individual prayer and meditation we vote. Individuals are chosen for their Character, Ability and Service to the Faith. All elected 9 members are equal. Through consultation and prayer, decisions are made. Every year the Local and National Spiritual Assemblies are re-elected, and every 5 years all National Spiritual Assembly members gather together in Haifa to elect, from the entire Baha’i World Community, the 9 members to serve on the Universal House of Justice.
