" It was already the middle of the day, Elizabeth and I were in the house, and we still couldn’t get out. We didn't have cell phones or walkie-talkies to contact anyone. But we had large supplies of firewood, food and water, so we were calm and safe. I walked back and forth along the small room, and went through different thoughts in my head. I was wondering what to do to open the front door, which most likely was covered with snow from the outside. One of the most primitive ideas was the one where I thought of breaking a window and getting out to clear the door of snow. But I immediately discarded it, since it was severely frosty outside, and in order not to freeze in the house, I would have to re-seal the window with improvised materials, which was problematic. Walking on an old carpet with an ethnic pattern, stepping on one specific place, the board sagged under my feet and made an uncharacteristic creak. At first I didn’t pay attention to it, but when it happened again, I immediately fell to the floor and pulled the carpet to the side. Elizabeth looked at me with great surprise; she did not understand what was happening. And only after I joyfully shouted “Yes, that’s it!” she ran up to me. Under the carpet we saw the hinged lid of the cellar. I had thoughts that this should help us. I immediately threw the lid aside, in front of us we saw a staircase leading down, and then there was complete darkness. I took a kerosene lamp and decided to go down and have a look. Stepping on the old creaking steps of the stairs, I realized that no one had walked on them for a very long time, everything around was covered in dust and cobwebs. Walking down the stairs and feeling the floor under my feet, I looked around. It was a cellar, but not an ordinary one, because instead of pickles and jam around, I saw many shelves on which lay old dusty books, folders with documents, pens and ink, as well as other office supplies. But the most amazing thing I saw here was that it was a relatively large globe, and it depicted a map of the world, but not at all the one that was familiar to us. It was a different world, not ours. Behind all this, in the corner I saw a door, and I was very curious where it led. Suddenly I heard Elizabeth calling me in an alarming voice, I responded, but my feet led me to that mysterious door. I pulled the handle and the door opened. What I saw behind her amazed me so much that I could not move. " To be continued...
