I've said it before when it happened and I'll say it again.....Nobody can replace Freeman in Atlanta, HOWEVER, atleast the braves did a good job in getting the next best 1st baseman with Olsen!

The umpiring is obviously 100% political and this is outrageous corruption on the part of MLB. I've seen up to 10 calls overturned in single games and sometimes more would have been overturned if teams weren't out of challenges. Now I'm no Mets fan and it would make me very happy if the Mets lose 100 games (quite probable if they are sellers at the trade deadline). But the pitch clock violation called on Soto in the first inning is just one of a ton of examples of how atrocious the umpiring really is.



I don't necessarily blame the umpires though; I blame MLB for how awful the umpiring is. Their player payrolls are in the hundreds of millions per year but they refuse evidently to pay umpires anything close to what players are paid. MLB umpires all get paid $150,000 - $450,000 in base salary plus generous per diem allowances and can earn a lot for post season games including $20,000 for the World Series. But unless I'm very wrong they aren't worth much more than $50,000 per year if even that much! In comparison with the MLB players the umpires are positively awful or at least a lot of them are.

Nice win to open the series. Holmes pitched well overall and great work from the bullpen with Dodd, Young, Fuentes, and Iglesias. The home runs were back for the braves, Michael had one, Ozzie had one, and Olson with not one but two homers. It does feel like this team is starting to find themselves again a bit. Just have to take it one game at a time to finish strong heading into the all star break. Sale on the mound tomorrow, let’s go braves.
