MD Vs. DO [The REAL Full Breakdown]
Video Overview & Insights
Wanna know the difference between an MD vs DO? Doctors of osteopathic medicine (DO) and doctors of medicine (MD) are two types of accredited doctor that can practice medical care in the United States.
Did this video help you decide on what kind of doctor you want to be ?
If yes don't forget to leave a like and comment down below on your thoughts
The differences between MDs and DOs are often subtle. MDs generally focus on treating specific conditions with medication. DOs, on the other hand, tend to focus on whole-body healing, with or without traditional medication. They generally have a stronger holistic approach and have been trained with additional hours of hands-on techniques. Watch this video to know more!

Thank you so much for this video! Itβs good to know from a doctor My son wants to become a dermatologist and based on his current statistics there is a high chance he would get into BSDo program ( little in BSMd) -wondering if you can share your thoughts on this. Also can you please share what school you went to? Does school make any difference in getting into the competitive field such as dermatology? π
00:00 - Introduction
01:06 - What Is A DO?
A.I. tells me that NONE of the editors of the current edition of "Harrison's Principles of Internal Medicine" are D.O.s. That says a lot to me.

3:49 - Admission

6:32 - Training In School
I think what's missed here is that MD's have way better access to top institutions for residency- where you are trained by some of the top physicians in the world- and DO residency training, in a large part, is more at outlying hospitals where you might not have access to a lot of diseases that you would see at these top institutions. The residency training I think is way better for MDs. And DOs in their residency training are often sent to other hospitals for different rotations, which can be an issue with the quality of training.
6:59 - Tests
7:55 - Residency
I am an orthopedic surgeon which is one of the hardest fields to enter as an MD graduate. As an MD, getting into an MD medical is unbelievably difficult as anyone in medicine knows. I was on my OB rotation when one one of the DO students took me aside and said regardless of what anyone tells you 99% of us applied to MD school and did not get in. There is also the uncomfortable truth that if they were not white or Asian they could have entered an MD school. Not being an underrepresented minority actually works against you. MDs are the cream of our medical system. If you go to any major University Hospital in America, those are all institutions that have a medical school that grant an MD degree, and you will have an unbelievably high chance of being seen by an MD. MD institutions select only the best applicants with the highest grades, MCAT scores, and everything being equal, as I've met in my colleagues, Olympic gold medalists, and a Navy SEAL. The best of the best. That is how they became an MD. The best residency training programs for doctors in America take first, United States MD graduates who have graduated at the top of their MD classes called 'AOA' or Alpha Omega Alpha. . The top residency training programs and hospitals, as this video doctor says, in America, are MD programs at MD medical schools. If you look at any list of top hospitals in America, they are all MD or allopathic training hospitals with medical schools which grant an MD . This Hasan Minaj joker, as an Indian or Pakistani, probably knows some people who were interested in medicine and found this out for him, and he made it into a cheap joke. All the Ivy League hospitals and medical schools are MD institutions. Sorry about the facts.

I think your video is amazing... Thank you... I am a non traditional prΓ© med, and I feel like DO is more my thing, not because it's easier to get in, it resonate with my background and my mind... I was the last couple years think of MD, however, lately I believe DO is my calling ... Not sure if I will ever make into any medical school, DO or MD or if I can find a way to pay π, anyway, I am not afraid to try... Love your video because you are clear and humble and, usually, I find myself disappointed when I read forums about both, MD or DO, because there is some many folks arrogant with an ignorance that is beyond the possibilities of education. π Thank you.

Thank you so much for making this video! Iβm a first year D.O. student and find that many people donβt know what a D.O. is π . You explained it really well and I appreciated the emphasis on both degrees being the same! Under another YouTube video that covered this topic, I unfortunately found some people did not accept that these degrees were equal. Thanks again for this informative video!

Very well-put! Iβm glad you spoke on the unique challenges DO students face regarding residency and opportunities to make themselves more competitive. Many residency programs use research as one of the major distinguishing factors between applicants- *on average*, meaningful research opportunities are easier to come by at MD schools.
Itβs important for premeds to acknowledge this pattern of challenges. In reality, I usually canβt tell if someone is an MD or DO without looking at their badge.

This is the first video to acknowledge D.O.'s are at a disadvantage. Now that they have combined residency applications, D.O.'s will be pushed into primary care.

Appreciate the honesty in this video. I had the chance to choose between MD and DO programs out of high school and actually chose a DO program because I didnβt have to take the MCAT! After talking with doctors I knew, thereβs really no difference and the biggest factor is working hard so you can serve your future patients well! I also thought it would be really cool to have the extra treatment option of OMM. Wish me luck as I just started med school!
