Maurice Clarett | Ohio State Highlights
Video Overview & Insights
A collection of Maurice Clarett's best plays from Ohio State's 2002 National Championship season.
In a post game interviews that year, one of the opposing DB's, I think from Wazoo, said to a reporter about #13, "It's like trying to tackle an SUV." š Opposing defenses, especially DBs, got worn down from trying to deal with him all day, like "Aw hell, here he comes again."
His punishing style was hard on his own body though, and he battled a shoulder problem all season and missed a lot of PT. Tressel tried to rest him as much as possible in the stretch run to save him for the big games, but without their punishing potential home run hitter in there it made some of those mid season games against lesser competition much closer than they needed to be.
He was a difference maker as only a freshman and probably the biggest example of a "what might have been" player in OSU history. He was just one chapter in an improbable, storybook season.
In 11 games, Clarett rushed for 1,237 yards (An Ohio State freshman record until JK Dobbins broke it in 2017) and 16 touchdowns, while catching 12 passes for 104 yards and two touchdowns.
In short, #13 was a 19 year old who played like a grown ass man. We all know how his time in Columbus ended, but hopefully these extended highlights are a good reminder of how special Clarett was.
So much Talent just Fucking wasted. So sad.
P.S. If you want to see highlights from Dobbins' freshman year, they are also on my page, or just click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHrtlbKXVL8&t=9s
One of the stupidly things I did in life; was being offered an SI magazine with him on the cover.
And didn't take it. Til this day I still have an untainted SI edition of Flo-Jo from '88.

@flatt2315He wouldāve been the greatest RB in Ohio State history.
@richiedubs6113He was simply a great running back! Everything you want in a RB. He had great vision, patience, balance, incredible strength and a high football IQ. He made his line look better because he helped set up blocks by the way he navigated through the hole. Such a great talent! I'm not an OSU fan, but I watched him every chance I got that season.
@pabrod2001Beast
@jessekauffman3336People forget they played 13 regular season games, so they had only one off week all regular season or none.
@easyenetwork2023Itās the combination of size (STRENGTH) and speed that made him so good. Iām SO MAD that he messed up his NFL career⦠š”
@TheWalrusPoacherHad just as much talent as Adrian Peterson
@BIGBabyBrowneBluesWhat is funny to me is all his yards were against teams like San Jose State, Washington State, etc. Ohio State never plays anybody. He would have been average in the SEC.
@jeffreytaranto4425He only played in 11 out of 14 games, it was found out in court, that he never attended 1 class at Ohio State and Professors were told to pass him anyways, he only ran a 4.78 forty at the NFL combine, but he had an incredible offensive line to run behind, he always go caught later down field
@muddwhistle7833Like he was shot out of a cannon if healthy would have gotten 2000 and would have won the Heisman people donāt realise how much hype and adoration he was being given too bad it all went to his head later but for that one season man was he special helped majorly bring OSU a National Championship along with Craig Krenzel Michael Jenkins Chris Gamble and the MVP punter Andy Groom
@79SteelyMattMaurice and Adrian Peterson were grown men rbās as Fr
@nicholaswoods4055One of the BEST Buckeyes and thats saying a whole bunch!
@kinch613Couldāve been a HOF
@damuryder1328damn shame he couldnt give up the street life
@rgman2858It's a shame things turned out the way they did..this kid was on his way to a great college career and who knows after that
@rshelley7496So sad he did not reach his full potential he was a beast!
@shirleytwswRicky Williams was nasty at texas
@lijahp1Whatās crazy is till this day itās crazy for a true freshman to start for any team in college. But Ohio state at its finest he did this.
@lijahp1A true stud; however, he had too many people whispering bullshit in his ear. Thanks, Jim Brown for fucking up Clarrett's future. Part of the Kudabeen tribe.
@richardclifford003Biggest waste of talent I can think of.
@VaeVictis6478We needed him in the NFL
@ChiLseasonHave ever seen a better runner of the football at such a young stage...film sessions must've been jaw dropping....HIS PLANT, PATIENCE n GO UN MATCHED...
@bluehill2895He was the truth
@elare1342The way he lowered his shoulder the man was just a freight train! The reason I am a buckeye fan!
@calebcopas9982I know he was just a true freshmen but the top end speed is lacking. He looks good and all but I just don't think the guy seemed all that special. Maybe its recency bias having had Dobbins and Zeke. I think I would take Zeke Dobbins beanie Hyde George all before this guy. Great freshman year though.
@joshhughart289The best true freshman performance in college football history capped off with a National title victory against the University of Miami hurricane. l started as a freshman linebacker l get what he accomplished .
@michaelkelly4503i met this guy he was probably the nicest guy ive ever met he told me about pursuing football and how size cant be taught
@landonthomas71Alright, check this out! I'll denounce my whole work! Anything included! The deal is, I get equal opportunity to get my "Frankenstein" on! Then I can see where I was so wrong that I was "X"ed out of everything mine!..... Deal or no deal?

@curtiswisdom2758Special. But Shouldāve just calmed down and stayed for another year or two. Probably wouldāve done wonders for him.
@brutussmithers3777He was a monster in college but couldnāt stay out of trouble and had terrible combine. He never recovered.
@fatherj3283Back in day when football was enjoyable
@PlasticStrwsIncredible talent wasted
@DudeInOhio85Absolutely hated everything Ohio St ever since Clarett. He was too damn good. Just a monster
