Video Overview & Insights

Maul vs Obi-Wan Kenobi at the end of this Star Wars: Rebels project's Season 3 Maul Arc Film Cut titled - "Powerful Light, Powerful Darkness."

13 film cuts, 21 solo episodes, covering every episode of the show (including the 4 shorts) all upscaled and color graded into full 4K HDR for the first time ever. Now you can watch Rebels in a more theatrical way, just like my prior Clone Wars Arc edits. While not every single episode could be easily edited into a feature film, all of the most important arcs have been recut to flow as seamless films, giving the Star Wars television canon just a bit more of that epic theatrical feel, and making the video look as good as we possibly can for modern up to date HDR capable screens.

For best results, please watch these trailers on a 4K HDR capable screen using either your TV's youtube app, or your 4K HDR capable monitor's Edge or Chrome browser youtube URL. HDR capable smartphones and tablets should also display the proper colors at any resolution.

Maul died this time for real

Three strikes. Three strikes and it was over. After decades of fights and hatred, suffering and a lot of screaming, it finally ended with three strikes in the middle of nowhere.

Wait, so Maul was suspecting that Luke was the chosen one which is why he asked Obi-Wan. Obi-Wan confirmed, which means he believed Luke is the chosen one. But hasn’t George Lucas confirmed that Anakin despite his fall to the dark side, was still the chosen one? Did all of the characters lose faith/belief that Anakin was the chosen one after his fall to the dark side?

I never really got how obi wan killed him here. Just noticed that he cut his gut open.

i know maul wouldve never been able to defeat obi wan here, but zabraks have 2 hearts so i expected him to survive a slash to the chest.

Sometimes it's hard not to feel sorry for Maul. Even at his most powerful, EVERY aspect of his life revolved around suffering.

After Maul dies its like his final tie to the past, was severed. The era that he once new is gone. Everyone hes ever known is either dead missing or worse. I love the way he catches maul when he falls, lets him say his last words and then closes his eyes after he passes, the amount of respect he showed really resonated with me and my understanding of what it means to be a jedi. It's also a bit depressing though, especially afterwards when we see him watching Luke interact with his family, I swear you can feel the emotion that he felt during that scene.

This is one of the greatest scenes in all of Star Wars. Such a pay off for the characters and the audience. Even tho theres only 3 actual lightsaber swings, the entire scene is a battle. Its the end of a very long chess game.

Yes maul... He did indeed avenge both of you in some way. Palpatine dies (i don't care about episode 7 - 9) and turn darth vader back to anakin....

It doesn't look like Maul got hit but rather he realizes he'll never beat Obi Wan and finally lets it go. His hatred the one thing keeping alive is gone. He learns Obi Wan is protecting "the chosen one" so he has hope.

2:40 nope, but he is his son.

@John_Smith_

Did obi wan just destroy him in 3 swings?

@Lextry_thehashishdealed

Maul realized he was not truly able to rise above like Obi Wan has. Since he believes in the chosen one, I wonder if they would have forged an uneasy truce to protect Luke in another universe.

Can I just say how much I dislike maul having a short saber hilt?

@noblereaction2586

That might have worked on Qui Gon, but to use the same tactic again was foolish, baited him into getting cut in half....again.

i feel like if maul stayed alive for 20 years he might become a anti hero

@kintheknigh80
@

Both were old and tired at this point, but while Obi-Wan was able to find peace with his mistakes maul simply couldn't let go of his anger, believing he was a failure, however in his final moments he was final able to let go and finally rest. And although Obi-Wan can't fully forgive maul for all the horrific things he's done, Obi-Wan knew he was simply a tool twisted and molded by the dark side thrown away once no longer useful, Obi-Wan granted his long time enemy one final comfort and closing his eyes to finally put an end to his suffering.

Stuff like this is what makes star wars great.

I sincerely believe in another time in another place Maul and Obi Wan would have been brothers. Hate is not the opposite of love, it is it's shadow...

I have a theory on the visions Maul and Ezra saw in the holocrons that I don’t see a lot of people talk about.

The way it was explained by Maul how the visions worked was that each person who put the two holocrons together saw cut-up visions of what each of the parties involved wanted to know. Maul wanted to know where Kenobi was, and Ezra wanted to know what the key to defeat the Sith was. However, both Ezra and Maul only saw Tatooine. Kenobi later explained that Maul manipulated Ezra’s intentions into finding out only what he wanted to know. Many people took that and insinuated that Maul probably lied on how the holocron visions worked, but I’m not so sure that’s entirely correct.

If how Maul explained the holocron visions was correct, there should be two visions, but as stated before, both Maul and Ezra only saw Tatooine. After Maul found out what he wanted to know, he left, and I believe in doing so, he cut the visions short. I think if Maul stayed, the holocrons would have shown a more exact location for their two questions. Maul/Ezra would have seen a more exact location of Kenobi’s base camp, but I believe they would also have seen the Lars family’s homestead.

Bringing us to my theory, I think the holocron’s answer to Ezra’s question is Luke. Luke was the key to turning Vader back to the light, who ultimately killed Sideous.

This should’ve been the ending for Star Wars Rebels.

This is more interesting, more poetic and more meaningful than the entire new trilogy.

Best duel in the franchise imo.

No 3 minutes of bashing blades together, just one mistake and you're gone.

For him to simply pity Maul after killing both Qui Gon and Sabine speaks to his character and confidence in the light side

God I would love them to go back an reanimate rebels with the maul shadowlord style. It drives me nuts how overly animated maul is when talking.

1:57 My favorite thing about the scene is that he immediately switches from his signature stance to his master Qui-Gon's stance.

I remember people were kind of disappointed by this duel at first, since it’s so short. But the facial animation is so brilliant. You can see that both Obi-Wan and Maul are playing out every possible move they could make in their minds, like chess masters. They’re fighting the most epic lightsaber duel ever conceived inside their own heads. The prequels and the Clone Wars series were all about big moments and broad strokes. The original trilogy and Rebels were about less is more.
