Manc to the Future: Private Eye dissects Andy Burnham's first major speech
Video Overview & Insights
Ian Hislop, Helen Lewis, Andrew Hunter Murray and Richard Brooks discuss Andy Burnham’s vision for Britain (AKA Even Greater Manchester), the non-existent ban on air-conditioning, and a new book on Emperor Trump.
So let me get this right. The Trump administration is emulating the Democrats (eg Pelosi making fortunes on the stck market, pardons for everyone). You're point is not they're all bent, just the Republicans?

Not state or local crimes.

When I learned the British middle class would rather live with Africans and Muslims {the people they sent us to war against 20 years ago} than working class people I gave up.
Locking up your country, kowtowing to your preferred race, injecting everyone and then cramming your preferred races into every council estate in the country is one of the most evil and cruel things the British state has ever done. London, to prove a point about who rules this misery pit, ethnically, culturally, politically and economically wiped out the poorest people in our country for their own selves!
And you sit there cracking jokes, you people are vile, you wiped out the English with those you sent them TO WAR WITH 20 YEARS AGO! You hide behind liberalism and values but you don't have any, London enslaves this entire fucking island and you all know it. You're just evil snobs who get off knowing that every poor child in the north has been FUCKED BLOODY BY THOSE YOUR CITY TRAFFIC HERE! Your miserable city pays their wah bh raping poor mens children.
I fucking despise you!

Andy is missing the point about electric cars. They may appear to be more efficient in terms of running costs, but when looking at overall lifetime envoronmental costs, they are less green than petrol cars until 90,000+ miles if the electricity is fossil fuel generated, until around 40,000 in Europe where a lot of electricity is 'green' and around 27,000 miles if all of their electricity was only generated from green sources. This data comes from Volvo who actually amke letrol, diesel and electric cars
@ImolaS3Burnham supported 2004 privatisation of NHS Services, and still is the only Sec Health to have privatised an NHS hospital (Hinchingbrooke).nb UK £ is a sovereign fiat currency since 1971 "Nixon shock" end of Bretton Woods! Are you all brainwashed about "money"? REAL resources are what matters. eg you can give everyone the money for a pony .................. but where are the ponies, the fields, the feed? Educate yourselves please UK Govt NEVER needs to borrow money you're talking political narrative twaddle pretending its truth. UK Govt is the sole issuer of UK£s - so if you stop & think, the only place you imply they can "borrow" money from is counterfeiters!! Fighting their BS with your own BS is sickening. A long time newsagent buyer of PE- this is the worst thing I've ever seen/heard from you.
@lloydedwards809Is this Helen Lewis audition piece for a Trump job? Fact-check her & there's nothing left!
@lloydedwards809You can use your air to water heat pump to cool your house as well.
@RobBreedtThey're quite pro new tech...fine...but we could look for real basic traditional methods to deal with heat first up - white walls and roof; external shutters; brise soleil; more greenery/shade etc etc. There's a load that could be done. We're moving very slowly though...and they can't just leave this stuff to individuals
@tiktok-si8etGreat discussion, I really enjoyed it 🙌
@anoni-mouse-on-nixNeed huge investment for flats as the electric points are going to have to be put in the car parks if the flats have them, and who is going to pay for the electric, home owner or council who then will have to charge car owner.
@Diane53MThe great firm that put in the air pump ..also do drones for elbit
@caroldobbieIf you can't fit a permanent airconditioner and/or a full house system: from Australian reverse cycle tech, what UK and US call heat pump, you can have aircon in a room if you have a window and a power point - and they can be fitted so as to be able to restore the window if you move out. The thing does, naturally, block light and you would have to remove (and if rental be ready to replace if the owner requires that when you go) the opening section of the window if not a sliding window. However, sensible people make sure to get one with fan-only operation on the menu.
Sometimes one cool room is enough to save your sanity.
I love the fact that they discus air conditioning s though it was some weird modern invention that nobody understands. Carnot published his seminal work on heat pumps almost exactly 200 years ago. We all want the air in our houses to be warmer in winter and cooler in summer. You can heat it directly, e.g. with various types of electric fires/radiators. If you do that you consume 1 kWh of electricity for each kWh of heat energy you put into your house. If you heat the air with an air-to-air air-conditioning unit each kWh of electrical energy you consume puts between 3.5 and 4.0 kWh of heat energy into the air. Which do you think makes most sense?
The main problem with air-to-water heat pumps that drive your existing radiator system is that the heat pump will not get the water as hot as a gas fired boiler so you need bigger area radiators. A secondary problem is that hot air rises and cold air falls. If you use a heat pump to cool the water in your radiators in summer it won't cool the room very efficiently. Air-to-air units are usually mounted high up but they have a deflector in front of the fan which can direct cold air high up when cooling so it falls through the space and hot air low down so it rises through the space.
We have had Heat Pumps in New Zealand for years!
@wadeburrellBuilders are just sitting on land with planning permission just to watch their assets inflate
@brianbenton9686Air conditioning units contribute over 3% of greenhouse emissions and use about 7% of the world's electricity and of course directly warm the cities they are most used in. We need to be looking at improved insulation, passive cooling and things like planting a lot more trees in cities to cool the whole city not just the houses/offices if those that can afford it. France have got the right idea: if reasonably temperate countries like ours start joining America in this AC fixation we haven't a hope.
@D1fferentDrummerSo untrue the comment about people not being bothered about local bin collections. Get out of the M25 and have a look at Birmingham!
@EWF-21097:17 We have to break up the large duopoly and triopoly developers across all regions as they benefit far to much from throttling supply with the status quo
@SketchyRob"How are we going to pay for this?" I dunno, how are you paying for materially supporting Israel's conquests?
(As a USian, I ask the same question even louder and more frequently of our own equivalent dipshits.)
(Also: That wasn't a slight at the panel, but rather at the dipshits who think that one line is an airtight argument against having nice things.)
I used to really enjoy this podcast until I started to see the hosts reluctancy to highlight or criticise UK MPs involvement with Israel, lobbies, donations and the governments involvement in a genocide. The mobilisation of the met police and the judicial system to silence anti-zionist voices.
I respect the decision to focus on national issues but it's clear that they choose to avoid the subject and when they're forced to address it (Zack Polanski, Jeremy Corbyn), they take the positions that have been seen by most people as propaganda to delegitimise the struggle against political zionism and in support of Palestinians and now Iranians and the Lebanese.
TL:DR I don't trust these reporters.
The whole country is sleep walking into allowing this failed (twice) Labour politician to take power without even being questioned. All the Labour cronies are scrabbling around hoping to get a job in the new Andy Cabinet. They have not even got the nerve to challenge AB. The man cannot even string a sentence together in open debate. "Dress down Andy" has not got a clue which is why he will not face scrutiny. Half an hour with Andrew Neil will sort out truth from fiction. We might as well pack up, pay up and piss off. Would the last one out please the key under the mat.
@seansimington6145Please keep talking about renewable energy. Hardly anybody seems to realise how much cheaper bills could be if we switch completely and remove our reliance on oil and methane, or how far behind Europe we are falling, unnecessarily (yes, Brexiteers, you are still stupid).
@NigelBreretonPost office ???
@notquiteoverthehill9576Oh dear the poor London biased media may have to think about the 87% of the population who live outside Greater London for once.
@old.not.too.grumpy.how long till the local lords and others decide that if they want a super discount on a piece of land for a specific purchase decides that they can do it themselves instead of giving it away to a foreign entity to do the same and sell it to us for a premium?
@katoughFor goodness sake! You snobby bunch. Heaven protect us from the horrors of not going to university. Is this the end of civilization as we know it!
@CaemhocBurnham was of course integral to covering up the grooming clans in Greater Manc but we don't talk about that do we
@eddodd1223You 4 are mentally Ill, eco lunatics!!!! No wonder our Country has been destroyed, because lefty morons like you exist!!!! How's the unflushable turd Hislop coming from the Centre?!!!
@CommonSense-c6uI'd like to know if any of Sadgits money for London, has ever gone to London & how much has gone to Pakistan?!!!
@CommonSense-c6uI could have guessed this dreadful woman lives in Lewisham!!!!
@CommonSense-c6uI love how this video begrudgingly acknowledges that many on the Left either refuse to accept, or simply don’t understand human nature, when it clashes with their seemingly rational concepts.
@ebutuoyYTHelen Lewis rocks
@carryonpompei42:00 No Susie. You're in-- and facilitating,--an authoritarian cult, you corrupt blintz!
@NunziaGirasoleI would just politely make the point that all air conditioners needs to vent their hot air somewhere, and that ultimately if everyone ends up getting aircon being outside is going to be even less pleasant in hot weather than it already is… Whereas we're still talking depressingly little about cheap, simple, passive solutions like awnings, exterior blinds and painting things white that can stop the heat getting inside buildings in the first place.
@william-ukSorry, but you can’t use a percentage of the entire population who travel actively to back up your argument. The percentage has to be distance based, i.e. by calculating the number of short journeys by active travel as a percentage. You are massaging the figures and sending the wrong message.
@jonnysee5473He is from Liverpool not Manchester FFS. He's Manchester mayor from aintree
@briancohenthepfjmassive.4769get it with electrification but i rely on public transport Trains to be one of them and the main fault during last weeks heat wave or even when bad weather happens was lines not working the electric lines kept going down we really need to focus on that in this country infrastructure needs to be really worked on if we are talking about sustainability
@hazeljones4275When Joe Biden left office, he pardoned people that he knew Trump would pursue for revenge - Family members, Dr. Anthony Fauci:, G, Jan. 6 Committee Members & Staff who investigated the attack, and various investigative staff members and officials involved in the Capitol riot probe. Based on Trump's actions as President, Biden was correct to do this. Biden did not pardon himself.
Hunter Biden was convicted of lying on his application for a gun licence by stating he was not a drug user - The Supreme Court has just ruled that drug users can own a gun. He was also convicted of not paying taxes - Trump is trying to get complete immunity from tax audits for himself, his family, and business associates.
Y-A-W-N. Too much giggling and no opposition.
@davepaterson935I live in Canada, and I am ashamed to admit that my heating/air conditioning runs all the time. Heating comes on if it gets cold in the house and air conditioning comes on if it's hot. My gas and electricity bills are each about $100 per month for a 4 bedroom house.
@lindabirkett8803It hasn’t been too hot in Scotland even in weather we have a north south divide
@sophiasymons'Manc to the Future?' not 'Burn, baby Burn'?
@Cadfael-i8mNetzero merely equalises the climate at 430ppm. We need to be actively lowering the carbon in the atmosphere.
The Tories and Reform are funded by oil companies. That's their priority. Denial and/or drilling support.
Shifting action from the societal to the individual has been on the delaying tactics of the oil industry since the 80s.
"Breezy" speech?!?! WTAF - this is the prospective PRIME MINISTER, not a cheap stand up comedian. Breezy has no place in how the most senior statesman in the country should behave - appalling.

When the gates of any 'Citadel of Scam" at whatever location, are revealed, but not quite open to those who are described as "A'hem!.... honest" ....
The gathering at any past or present.. "Grand Prix Scam"... in any down town "Scamalotridge" a fair size County come Shire of exploitational risk accumulation with local benefits and to say nothing of the borders...psst! "Sh!...say nothing about any borders...!" Will make their own fiscal deals and the company that always wins is the banks......well well
Re air con. I believe the 2,500 grant is only available if you get rid of your gas/oil boiler.
@johnkearsey3020He was preaching to the converted, it’s easy playing at home when there are no away supporters. He didn’t want to take any questions . . . . .
@Rupert-y5yHELEN. Recycling does NOT necessarily mean sending trash to China. Even if we do that now. You appear to be an intelligent person & yet make this comment.
@granthurlburt4062The silence of local media over the rape gangs operating in their respective areas of circulation, shows how toothless they are.
@johnenglish92928:07 oh do piss off with “skills” - there are loads of people in the UK with the intellectual capacity to be retrained on the job.
Instead we bin them off saying “they don’t have the right skills” or sometimes “experience” and then start wringing hands about getting people into education.
The retraining thing is something of a scam, like Helen says it’s another “do it yourself” move, except you’re expecting adults with children and either mortgages or rent to pay, partners to support or whatever and expecting them to do a 6 month to 3 year expensive course (£15000-£2000 if it’s an MSc) that won’t amount to being as qualified as being “experienced” for a job that may or may not exist.
It’s completely unrealistic and an idiotic way of distributing employment while handing a bunch of often useless training companies a load of money to add basically no value to the overall economy.
From now on any time someone says “skills” in relation to industry or infrastructure the Eye team all have to take a drink
