Mako sharks are the fastest sharks alive today! They can reach speeds over 40 miles per hour (64kmh). There are two mako shark species: the longfin mako shark and the shortfin mako shark. This video focuses specifically on mako shark facts in generally but these lean heavily towards shortfin mako facts because they are more well studied than longfin mako sharks. Longfin mako shark are endangered and rarely seen. They can be told apart from each other by their different fin lengths and coloration around the mouth.
Mako sharks were some of the first sharks I ever learned about. I loved their sleek body shape and speed! What do you like about mako sharks?
