Magazine 'Shot By Both Sides' live Belgian TV 1979
Video Overview & Insights
Live TV gig on July 2 1979, a few months before guitarist John McGeogh was poached by Siouxsie & the Banshees. The Banshees also played this show, so perhaps this is when they decided McGeogh would fit (see their Hong Kong Garden clip also at this channel).
McGeeoch is sick af.
This footage has been used on YT with the single dubbed on - here's the real live sound and peformance in HQ. Filmed for Belgian TV show Folllies.
Magazine 'Shot By Both Sides' lyrics:
Secondhand Daylight
This and that, they must be the same
What is legal is just what's real
🖤
What I'm given to understand
Is exactly what I steal
Best rock band of 79 with Joy Division.
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
I love you Big Dummy!!!
I was shocked to find what was allowed
I didn't lose myself in the crowd
A very underated band. They were great live.
Shot by both sides
On the run to the outside of everything
Plexiglass an for shot by glass the best of
Shot by both sides
They must have come to a secret understanding
What the hell Is. PlexiGlass
New offenses always in my nerves
They're taking my time by force
100% cumshot 💜
They all sound the same when they scream
As a matter of course
Half of the Armoury Show, right there.
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
Egregious
I was shocked to find what was allowed
I didn't lose myself in the crowd
Very influenced by Television.
Shot by both sides
On the run to the outside of everything
Historical and important.
Shot by both sides
They must have come to a secret understanding
I have just read a biography of John McGeogh called 'The Light Pours Out Of Me'. Highly recommended.
Why are you so edgy Kid?
Asks the man with the voice
did the strokes just totally copy this band?
One thing follows another
You live and learn, you have no choice
und von oben und unten!
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
I wormed my way into the heart of the crowd
Fun fact: I once stood next to Howard Devoto at the bar in a pub in Stoke Newington.
I was shocked to find what was allowed
I didn't lose myself in the crowd
One of the magic tunes from my past!
I didn't lose myself to the crowd
I didn't lose myself to the crowd
OMG. This makes me so nostalgic.
I was shocked to find what was allowed
I didn't lose myself in the crowd
Suedes antidepressants brought me here..
But I wormed my way
But I wormed my way
I had tickets to see these at the Southbank about 12 years ago and went to see Barnet v Millwall instead…. Will never forgive myself 😐
But I wormed my way
But I wormed my way
Bad
But I wormed my way
But I wormed my way
Extraordinary band, just writing a piece about them. Where punk should have gone.
But I wormed my way
But I wormed my way
The vocals are terrible.
Shot by both sides
I don't ask who's doing the shooting
Good drummer.
Shot by both sides
We must have come to a secret understanding
Воистину, одлопезы в толпе не отдупляют всю ту невозможную прекрасную мощь этого произведения

@petervinylpeterterhorst5236Who’s here in 2025, who cares - I was there in 1979.
@stringcusI think Radiohead said at one time they were a Magazine band ir similar
@andy_pandy_67Okay. Hi. Mag. Z
@Andrew-h3p5gBuzzcocks were like cartoon pop music compared to Magazine. Intelligent, acerbic.
@jamesure2426🖤
@mafiamoscoloni2332Howard is like a divine mix of Iggy Pop, Bowie and Peter Gabriel.
@beaware6487One of the greatest songs ever made.
@ozancandemirsk9423Just found out this tune was the influence on Radiohead's song Just from the Bends.
@modernzoocietyGreat song , had this when it was first released. This live version is probably more exciting than the record👍👌
@tonybeards9153🤘
@JasonCoker-k4oCan’t sing worth crap but he’s entertaining
@theethinethouwhile I hold magazine in the highest regard, and their album "the correct use of soap" is an unrecognized classic- and John McGoegh is one of the best guitarists of his era- this riff and song are Pete Shelley creations, used in another great song "Lipstick" by buzzcocks.
@paulsass4343I bought this single in 1978 ☺️ still got it.
@MissFlight-q8fI saw them live in Leeds in 90's think they supported but i can't remember due to drugs. They were very very tight.
@breakit46Now i know from where Jonny Greenwood borrewed that "Just" guitar solo.
@valjrart6702Devoto my musical hero
@MattAttack54When punk became a “cliche “people like magazine inspired
