I've been to Barcelona 3 times, over 3 decades, and not ONCE have I felt I could actually live there! - always some unpleasant experience, and honestly - the Catalan people can be VERY Rude! I have not spent time in Madrid - have flown into the Airport, and rented a car - and drove through Galicia, and Portugal (which I LOVE!), but last night, I had a dream that I was living in Madrid - and it was GOOD! Next European trip for me!

@sirenablanca2302Thank you for the fantastic video. It is a must see for people coming to Spain for the first time. Madrid has been my home for more than 3 decades and every year it gets better if that is even possible. People like to compare the two largest cities in Spain, Madrid and Barcelona, but I find that they are so different that you have to appreciate each one for what it offers. I have been doing educational tours with North American middle and high school students for more than two decades and at the end of each tour I ask the participants which cities they liked the most and why. 99% percent of the time they say Madrid is their favorite over Paris, Rome, Lisbon, Athens, London etc. The answer is almost always the same. The people are nice, it is not a monument city, it is a living city with a really good vibe and abundant culture (40+ museums) and although there are a lot of tourists it is not overwhelming maybe like it is in Barcelona. You can walk around all hours of the night and feel safe. You do not have an anti-tourist movement here like you do in some other Spanish cities.

En su momento tuve a Madrid en el corazón y despues por avatares de la vida a Barcelona. Sencillamente no puedo comparar ambas ciudades por el respeto que le tengo a Madrid y la gratitud que le tengo a Barcelona que me ha dado tanto. Para mí ambas son dos grandes ciudades con enormes diferencias pero igualmente dignas y hermosas.
@PAQUITO1966Me gustan las dos.Madrid por su vida en la calle,su forma amigable de tratar al de fuera,sus museos,parques....aunque hay lugares muy masificados en el centro,común a todas las ciudades turísticas actualmente.Tambien sucede en Barcelona.
Si hablamos de belleza....en Barcelona el modernismo está presente en infinidad de edificios,sin contar Gaudí,que serían en cualquier ciudad monumentos icónicos,...además tiene lugares como el Born...Sta María del Mar....pequeñas plazas en el Gótico....barrios como Gràcia... Barceloneta...mar y montaña...Tibidabo.
Madrid era mucho mejor antes, ahora es de todo menos Madrid.

@julioperez8309From Galicia, while I must admit that people in Madrid are much friendlier and more open than in Barcelona, as a city, in terms of its urban planning, monuments, and architecture, Barcelona is far superior to Madrid. Madrid is superior in museums and its metro network, which is perhaps one of the best in the world. Barcelona also has sea and beaches.

@LoungecathMadrid is in fact very beautiful, visually and in terms of personality. Barcelona has the sea, which makes it always attractive, but its residents in general are VERY RUDE ! I have been there. more than once, and the experience has repeated itself. They have an issue with being relevant to the rest of the country (to which they do not want to belong) and they are nasty to tourists, they do not understand we support their local economy. I decided not to return and spend my money in more welcoming communities.... Madrid has a very warm and welcoming vibe is always a great joy to visit.....
