It's LOO-EY-VILLE.
For God's sake... it's named after King Louis XVI.
Not King Lull.
Not King Luhl.
King Louis! Pronounced LOUIE.
Y'all sound like you're chewing on rocks when you butcher it by saying Lullville.

Being from Bourbon County,, many Kentuckians think of Louisville more as part of Indiana than Kentucky. The reason is that “midwestern vibe” that Louisville has, vs the southern feeling you get from the rest of the state.

Some of Our Favorite Travel Videos We Think Other Travelers Would Love

I live in Louisville currently. Also have lived in New Orleans and Branson Missouri. You mentioned the homeless here, and I can tell you the main difference between the homeless here and the homeless in New Orleans. The homeless in New Orleans will try to entertain you. They will do magic tricks, play music, dance, paint pictures, etc.....the homeless in louisville will just beg you for money, cigarettes and beer....often with a sad story about how terrible life is for them

I was born and raised in Louisville. The west end.Been away for 27 years. It was racist when I was there. They didnt take slavery off the books until 1976. I was born in 1972. They claim they forgot. Had up signs that said no colored allowed signs. Took em down 1980. Went to Dan C Byck elementary, Emmiitt Fields elementary, Western Middle schooI,Shawnee High School. Graduated from J Graham Brown High school in 1991.

8:05 you can think of it as Louisville being a midwestern city and Bowling Green being a Southern City

Thinking of moving to Louisville from Maine is it a good place to move to ???

LOUISVILLE is a sh*thole. only thing good about it is cherokee park and coffee shops. EATZ / MIRAGE / GRAPE LEAF, JOY LUCK, OIISHI, MT FUJI AND SAPPARO AND MORRIS'S DELI IS THE ONLY THING GOOD ABOUT THE PLACE. THE LEFTIST CRAZIES, THE BARS, THE OTHER HALF ASS PLACES TO EAT PLUS THE TRASH.....it's over rated - again cherokee and some parts of the highlands are amazing. everything else sucks.

@josefadams647

Don’t go downtown!! Don’t get out of your car if rammed into!!!

@Jimdandy1969

Great job but it really is a southern city even if it's a border town. Maybe it's a bit like a border city with different influences. I'll give you that. Bourbon, fried chicken, biscuits & gravy, country ham, horse racing, bluegrass, and yes a subtle southern accent are not Midwestern. Home of the Southern Baptist seminary and in the bible belt. The German Irish influence here is not as great as true Midwestern cities. Belle of Louisville sound Midwestern to you? Didn't think so.

My advice living here Don’t come to Louisville to even visit definitely not to live. You brought out the good. The Muhammad Ali museum really nice. The he Bourbon and Hot brown is good.

@queenjordangore764

Agreed, be responsible at night, but the Louisville Police are out in force to protect Derby tourists, so if staying downtown, you should be safe. When you are in the Churchill Downs neighborhood, day or night, that is a rougher area of town.

@uncleblakey0777
@

Mega lame. It's a manmade underground warehouse.

@uncleblakey0777
@

Yes, the Downtown museums are easily accessible, and who wouldn't want to go inside the building with the world's largest baseball bat? But missing the Kentucky Derby Museum would be the biggest mistake. I just wish it was downtown too.

@uncleblakey0777
@

Did he say to NOT tour the distillery's outside of the city? If you do, you will be missing a lot.

@uncleblakey0777
@

Don't forget to have a Mint Julep? As long as the mint Julep is not made / purchased at Churchill Downs, and instead somewhere that actually will put it together with bourbon, muddled mint, simple syrup and ice. At Churchill it's nothing but sweetened mint flavored Early Times (a substandard brand IMHO) ... effective towards a buzz but god awful tasting.

@uncleblakey0777

LOU A Vul. Is the way u say it .

@six1nina560

There is only ONE correct way to say Louisville. It was named after a King. King Louis the 16th. He wasn't called King Lewis, or Louah, or lou. It was Lewee, period!

@neildickson5394

Stay out of West End and certain parts of downtown.

Louisville is a shithole the crime is way out of hand. The police are all but inexistent the government is left and they could care less about crime, My mothers home was burnt down two days ago yesterday we weren't there and found they had stole my brothers truck the wheels off my moms truck and to top it of they stole the siding off man moms house, If you are not very careful you will get robbed , raped, carjacked our murdered. The officials are saying crime is down?? It may be but it isnt in Louisville. And the area all around the downs are very bad,

@Davidtrimble-u7x

His hair kills me...that's definitely a "DONT " for Louisville. 😂

Loo-a-vul....that's how you say it. Speaking as a lifelong Louvillian. Derby and the festivities leading up to it are great. We are a great foodie town too and tons of historical places all within a short drive.

I’m having a hot brown while I watch this

@theonlyalexoliveira

Lived here for life, and I always call it "THE Kentucky Derby"... But in casual conversations you may say "It's Derby week" if a Villian corrected you, that's sad... I would venture to say your Louisville pronunciation is not great, and they picked at you because of that. Round these parts we say "Lou-E-vill". Had to cut out before 1 minute, I don't think this is an accurate description of the city. My city.

@GuNNuH
@

Fun fact on the hot brown. It was created by a chef at the brown hotel. Story goes a few big wigs were hungover and had a meeting to attend. As the kitchen was not open yet they begged the chef to create a meal to cure their hangover. He put together was now known as the "Hot Brown". What you get now is not the original, which only consists of yes turkey on toast smothered in gravey. Which makes sense if you know it was Thanksgiving weekend.
Visitors: Don't venture off to far from the fun of downtown. Pay close attention to the streetlights. If you get lost don't go past 6th street and make your way to river road. Still keep your alerts about you.

@ericschooley1744
@

You did a VERY good job on this video! As a native, I can say that you presented a very accurate view of our city. Thank you for not speaking 100% negative like some people do.

Democratic Party leadership for decades has ruined Louisville beyond repair. So many good people have sold their homes and relocated big time. So sad sad sad...

I love this, good to know. I'm planning to move there in the next few months. My wife and kids we're all from NJ. Any spots we should avoid. I've heard from family the west end. But any specific streets or neighborhoods? I'm excited to see what the area has to offer us.

The do’s of visiting Louisville: Don’t

@tyalan2579
@

Louisville Derby visitors are lucky they can leave immediately after the race. Louisville residents are trapped by decades of pathetic liberal Democrat rule, a sanctuary city overrun with illegals, crime, drugs, terrible overall traffic, very poor schools, high taxes, and this just scratches the surface. Don't believe me. Just do your own independent research to find out the facts.
